In July of 1987, my younger brother Richard Lopez (Richie) dove into a pool at a family members home, hit the bottom of the pool, and ended up breaking his neck. He wasn’t even 21 years of age . This ended up leaving Richie  a quadriplegic. Richie is paralyzed from the chest down. Although this type of situation can bring a lot of people down, Richie remained positive and took the high road. He was always the life of family gatherings, always bringing joy and laughter to us all.  This didn't change. He was determined to go on and live a normal life. With the help of his girlfriend Rosalie, his family, and  a lot of hard work on his part , he eventually went on to learn to drive a vehicle, get a job, and marry Rosalie. They went on to have a beautiful daughter named Xochitl. Rich and his wife absolutely love children. It isn't uncommon for them to have children of family and friends running around their home. They welcome it! Richie has also always been a wonderful father figure to the young men in the family who's fathers were absent. With his guidance, support, and love, they went on to become good men.My brother is one of the strongest, positive, hard working, and loving men that I know.  To know him is to love him.  No matter what was going on in Richie's life,  if you needed help, he was there . Now it’s Richie who needs help. Not only for himself , but for his family . Richie was working full time to support his family, but due to some serious medical issues that have occurred as a result of his paralysis, he needs a major surgery,  leaving him unable to work temporarily. Additionally, Fresno hospitals were unable to provide the type of medical attention and services Richie needs, therefore; he was referred to San Francsico Pacific Medical Center. We are grateful that he will be able to receive the care he needs, but it has also created an unexpected hardship for the family. Richie is expected to be there for a few months, and living arrangements for his family members can be quite expensive. Due to his inability to work at this time,  his family is left in need of assistance with travel expenses to be by his side in San Francisco as he goes through his surgery and his  portion of the medical bills which has become significant and climbing. His Wife Rosalie, daughter Xochitl, and  my mom want to be by his side every step of the way. As we all know, having family around during times like this is sometimes the best medicine for a patient. For these reasons I ask on behalf of my brother Richie and family for your support. Richie would love nothing more than to return to his normal life and support his family. He is doing his part by remaining strong and committing to his health obligations.  Please help Richie through this tough time with any type of financial contribution you can afford. We thank you in advance for your assistance. God bless.
