"The Richfield Disability Advocacy Partnership envisions a
barrier-free, inclusive and diverse city that values each
individual and their voice.  Where all people in Richfield enjoy the power of
equal rights, opportunities, dignity and respect."

12% of Richfield residents have some type of disability, and are the second to largest minority in the city.

People with disabilities make meaningful contributions to their families, workplaces, neighborhoods, and public life, but too often environments and communities are not structured to allow them full participation and opportunities for success.
That's where R-DAP comes in.
R-DAP educates and advocates for our local community, employers, nonprofits, transportation and housing service providers, to be more responsive and inclusive to our growing disabled population. With greater attention and responsiveness to the challenges that people with disabilities and their families face, local government can advance economic security, community inclusion, and the sense of overall well-being for its current and future residents with disabilities.

Hi everyone,

(Update September 2020)

R-DAP really needs your help, right now, in order to continue our work in our community, and to be as inclusive as possible, in hiring Spanish and ASL (American Sign Language) interpreters, in maintaining our accessible website, paying for Zoom for meetings and webinars, and many other things.

Below is a list of many of the things we have been working on, just in the last several months. (September 2020)

- R-DAP hosted a forum for the Richfield City Council Candidates in September (2020), to shine a light on the issues facing the disability community in Richfield, and find out where our candidates stand.

- R-DAP Director Judy Moe, and R-DAP member and Richfield Human Rights Commissioner Tasha Ostendorf accepted a proclamation from Mayor Regan Gonzalez to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the ADA in July, 2020.

- At the same City Council meeting where we accepted the proclamation, at our request 20 different Richfield residents wrote to the city council to ask them that the city make inclusivity a priority, and include people with disabilities. All letters were read during the meeting.

- Judy Moe was a guest on "A Moment with the Mayor" to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), and discuss the different things R-DAP is actively working on in the city.

- We successfully advocated for the city to communicate with residents through the mail, or door to door delivery (especially since the beginning of COVID), instead of relying on Facebook and Email so much.
We know that only 70% of seniors and 60% of people with disabilities have the internet, and studies show that only 9% of seniors go to the internet to get information in an emergency. We will continue to advocate for this.

- We've worked with Hennepin County Commissioner Debbie Goettel to get a crosswalk put in, at 63rd and Nicollet, so that residents with and without disabilities can cross Nicollet and get to the park safely.

- We've continued our advocacy on accessible affordable housing, to everyone who will listen, but particularly with the Richfield City Council Members, the HRA, our Hennepin County Commissioner, and other non-profits, encouraging them to make fully accessible housing a priority.

- Successfully advocated to our Hennepin County Commissioner Debbie Goettel to create change in policy for accessible housing, and to make sure that it continues to be a part of the conversation anytime housing is discussed.

- Advocated for the city to be more inclusive, which includes people with disabilities, in the city's different surveys, and anytime they collect data about residents.

- Assisted Richfield residents with disabilities in accessing supports.

- Worked with our State Rep Michael Howard, Senator Patricia Torres Ray, and Hennepin County Commissioner on funding legislation and programs that are desperately needed by the disability community due to COVID-19.

- Worked with Hennepin County Commissioner Debbie Goettel, Senator Torres Ray, and a member of the MN Council on Disability on keeping individuals with disabilities safe during times of increased violence.

- Attended many (virtual) webinars and meetings, with the purpose of continuing to educate ourselves so that we can better educate others.
This is not an exhaustive list.

Every dollar counts toward  creating a barrier-free, inclusive and diverse city that values each individual and their voice.
Where all people in Richfield enjoy the power of equal rights, opportunities, dignity and respect.

Please give as you can.
