In 2014 Richard was diagnose with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Receiving infusions for pain. March of 2017 started the complications of undernourishment, high heart rates, And rapid weight loss. Completing testing that ranged from Crohns  disease to blood cancer. Jan 1st 2018 was the first emergency room visit. In and out of the hospital every 3-4 days. He kept decreasing, weakening. The end of Jan he was misdiagnosed due to lack of knowledge. They said he has aggressive and active Crohns. After completing a Remicade infusion treatment he was unable to walk, stand or barely talk. Feb 12th my mom rushed him to U of M emergency room, Within 72 hr they re-diagnosed him with disseminated histoplasmosis. A rare bacterial infection that had spread from this lungs to his colon due to lack of treatment. An infection so rare, U of M had not seen anything like this in over 10 yrs. He was treated for 7 days on IV treatment and released home. 4 days later the confusion, memory loss  started.. rushed back to U of M by ambulance. Again, realizing how aggressive his infection was it had also created a fungal infection. Now 21 days of IV treatment, Paranoia, confusion memory loss and malnourished, we made it home Thursday March 29th. In home nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy.. with an expected 9 month time frame for healing and getting dad healthy again. Saturday morning he slipped and fell in the bathroom. Due to the weakness and undernourishment he fractured his right hip- prompting surgery.
Again with the complications of being malnourished, confusion, low hemoglobin, and high heart rates the Doctors were skeptical. Monday’s surgery came and went great, Dr said he did amazing! Truly a strong man. Now the recovery time... 6-9 months. When he woke from the surgery, the delusions, confusion, memory loss started all again. Today is a little better. Eating a little, still confused. However with all this his family has become very strapped with Debbie by his side she has not been able to work and they have ran there income and savings out. We really need your help. It doesn’t have to be a lot. they have done so much for others, if we could give something back to them it would be much appreciated. Thank you friends and family.
