Richards Chemotherapy fund
Donation protected
Hi my names Lee and sadly we recently discovered that one of my closest friends, Richard, has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Rich is a massive part of not only my life, but also all of my families life too. This news has hit us all like a freight train. Initially the hope was that surgeons could perform an operation to remove Richards tumour but unfortunately, upon inspection it’s been found that the tumour has broken through the colon wall and spread to Richard’s peritoneal and omentum. This makes things tricky.
To get to a point where an operation is possible Richard is going to have to face some really intense and aggressive chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy is looking likely to commence around the middle of June and most of the treatment, as you’d expect, is funded by the NHS. Unfortunately, according to Richard’s oncologist, a part of Richard’s treatment plan currently could involve a chemotherapy drug called Bevacizumab. Otherwise, or more commonly, known as Avastin. Due to sweeping cuts in the NHS Avastin is no long available as free at the point of use. In fact in can cost up to £3,000 per round.
With Richard facing a possible 6 months of chemo (24 rounds) these cost can quickly escalate and get out of control.
Coupled with the fact that Richard and his wife Lisa are both self employed, the potential cost of this chemotherapy along with the overall unseen cost of cancer is an issue I’m determined to alleviate from their lives.
I can’t help Richard physically but I can help raise the funds so that Richard and Lisa’s can focus on fighting this battle head on!
There are various events planned including a black tie ball, an auction, a 24 hour consecutive bike ride and pt sessions, with more bits
adding daily. People are donating prizes as well as purchasing tickets as we speak. This go fund me page will be the best way of donating to help give Richard the best possible chance we can.
So let’s do it!
Thanks in advance to everyone who gets
behind this ❤️
And Rich mate I love ya!
