Und plötzlich steht das Leben auf dem Kopf... am 07. Mai 2020 wurde bei unserem lieben Richard ein bösartiger Hirntumor (Glioblastom) diagnostiziert. Seit diesem Tag ist nichts mehr wie zuvor.
Richard ist 59 Jahre alt und Papa von zwei erwachsenen Töchtern und leidenschaftlicher Opa seines bald dreijährigen Enkels. Zudem ist er seit 29 Jahren glücklich mit seiner Frau Astrid verheiratet und wohnt in einem kleinen Vorort von Augsburg. Er ist Alleinverdiener der Familie, die zusammen mit Richards Eltern alle unter einem Dach leben. Die Töchter befinden sich noch in der Ausbildung und der kleine Enkelsohn genießt es in Mitten der Familie und mit Opa Richard als einzige, männliche Bezugsperson aufzuwachsen.
Nicht einmal 2 Wochen nach der tragischen Diagnose wurde der Tumor operativ entfernt, hierbei wurde noch ein zweiter Tumor entdeckt, welcher jedoch zum Glück auch entfernt werden konnte. Anschließend wurde sofort mit der Bestrahlung und der Chemotherapie begonnen. Die Prognose bei dieser Art von Tumor ist mit der herkömmlichen Therapie aber leider schlecht. Die durchschnittliche Überlebensdauer beträgt gerade einmal 12-15 Monate.
Wir als Familie haben nun alle Hebel in Bewegung gesetzt, jede ergänzende und alternative Therapie ausfindig zu machen.
Unser aktuell einziger Hoffnungsschimmer ist jedoch die klinische Studie über die CUSP9v3-Therapie von Prof. Halatsch an der Uniklinik Ulm. Die auf das Glioblastom speziell gerichtete Therapie besteht aus einem gut verträglichen Medikamenten-Cocktail mit 9 verschiedenen Wirkstoffen. Die Erfolge sind bereits in der Anfangsphase überragend. Bei der Hälfte der Patienten stoppte das Tumorwachstum. Diese Patienten überleben teils schon seit über 2 Jahren ohne Rezidiv. In die Studie aufgenommen zu werden, ist leider unmöglich, da diese auf nur 10 Teilnehmer begrenzt und aktuell voll ist. Jedoch kann man als alternativen Heilversuch das Medikament auch von seinem Hausarzt verschreiben und verabreichen lassen.
Die Behandlung ist sehr teuer, da die Medikamente allein schon ca. 3.000,- € monatlich kosten. Die Krankenkasse übernimmt diese Kosten leider nicht und wir selbst können sie leider nicht tragen.

Richard möchte leben und kämpft jeden Tag. Die Ernährung wurde vollständig umgestellt, um dem Tumorwachstum entgegen zu wirken. Trotz Schmerzen, Gesichtsfeldausfall/einseitige Erblindung, Schwindel und Orientierungsschwierigkeiten steht Richard jeden Tag aufs Neue auf und geht an der frischen Luft spazieren, um sich bestmöglich fit zu halten. Er versucht sich mittlerweile schon wieder - zur Freude aller - als zuverlässiger Tragedienst für den Enkel.
Die ganze Familie sagt dem Krebs jeden Tag positiv und hoffnungsvoll den Kampf an.
Mit eurer Unterstützung hat unser Papa die Chance zu überleben, das Tumorwachstum zu stoppen und seinen Enkel aufwachsen zu sehen.

And suddenly life is upside down... on 07 May 2020 our dear Richard was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour (glioblastoma). On that day day everything changed completely.
Richard is 59 years old and the father of two adult daughters and a passionate grandfather of his soon to be three-year-old grandson. He has also been happily married to his wife Astrid for 29 years and lives in a small suburb of Augsburg. He is the single earner of the family, who together with Richard's parents all live under one roof. The daughters are still in training and the little grandson enjoys growing up in the middle of the family and with Grandpa Richard as his only male role model.
Less than 2 weeks after the tragic diagnosis the tumour was surgically removed, and a second tumour was discovered, which fortunately could also be removed. Afterwards, radiation and chemotherapy were started immediately. Unfortunately, the prognosis for this type of tumor is poor with conventional therapy. The average survival time is only 12 to 15 months.
We as a family have now done all we can to find any complementary and alternative therapy.
However, our only glimmer of hope at the moment is the clinical study on the CUSP9v3 therapy by Prof. Halatsch at the University Hospital of Ulm. The therapy, which specifically targets glioblastoma patients, consists of a well-tolerated drug cocktail of 9 different drugs. The success is already outstanding in the initial phase. In half of the patients the tumour growth stopped. Some of these patients have survived more than 2 years without any sign of progression. Participation in the study is unfortunately impossible, as it is limited to only 10 patients and is currently full. However, as an alternative treatment, the drug can be prescribed and administered by your family doctor.
The treatment is very expensive, as the medication alone costs about 3.000,- € per month. Unfortunately, the health insurance company has not approved to cover the costs and we ourselves cannot bear them.

Richard wants to live and fights every day. The diet has been completely changed to counteract the growth of the tumour. Despite pain, one-sided blindness, dizziness and orientation difficulties, Richard gets up every day and goes for a walk in the fresh air to keep fit as best as he can. Despite fatigue (induced by the chemotherapy) he still plays as much as possible with his grandson.
Every day the whole family declares war on cancer in a positive and hopeful manner.
