Richard McCumbers family

My husband, Richard, and I have come to realization that we’ve hit rock bottom. We’ve had trials and obstacles to get through before, but they were never this extreme. They were however, difficult beyond belief. But now, we know is a new low for us. We believed that we’ve hit rock bottom before, and we always bounced back up with each other’s help & time of course. But this time, we can’t help each other get up because we are both at the bottom. We need a rope to be let down, so we can climb our way back up.

My husband has been unemployed since February of 2019. Those of you that know of Richard know that he isn’t a “stay at home” kind of guy. He likes to work. He likes to be able to provide for his family. He likes to be able to work on our vehicles when they have a problem. He’s the kind of person that gives everything he does his all, and he won’t stop until he believes the task is compete.

Having to stay home because he’s limited to his independent will to be mobile, has been an emotional roller coaster for him. For those of you who don’t know, my husband had to have back surgery. He went into surgery fine other than the fact that he needed to get his back better. When he awakened from surgery, he couldn’t see out of his left eye. He thought for sure that it would come back. He thought that it might have just been a side effect, but when he told the doctor, the doctor decided to check everything out to see what caused the lack of vision in his left eye. They performed every single tear you could think of to try and see what went wrong, but the doctor kept saying that everything was intact. He said he didn’t see any reason as to why Richard would’ve lost his vision after awakening from surgery. They quickly brushed us aside after they did these test & didn’t see any problems. My husband still can’t see anything out of his left eye. We got referred to see a neuro ophthalmologist by the test completed at their office, results outcome his left eye had a optical nerve stroke, during back surgery; he is now blind from the left eye after back surgery.

My husband has to go through physical therapy daily to help him with his back. He uses a walker to help him get around when he’s able to get up. He can’t even drive himself anywhere. He needs assistance for typical daily task now. This surgery has caused him to be in excruciating amounts of pain at times. The pain tends to come in waves, and when it hits, it hits hard; like a tsunami. It pains me to see him this way, and to be so helpless. No matter what I try to do, it just can’t help ease his pain when it hits that hard. He’s in constant pain, but when these tsunamis hit, it truly is a terrible thing to just see. I can’t imagine what he’s going through, or how he even fights this daily.

Since he isn’t able to work, we are living off of one income; mine. It’s been a challenge to try and keep us afloat. The bills just keep piling up, and before I know it, I’m flooded with notices here and there on stopping our service/ things of that nature. Our landlord isn’t being understanding either, and we completely understand that they need the rent money as well, but we just don’t always have it at the time it’s required. Our cell phones have been shut off several times before as well. They can only give us so much leeway before needing us to pay our cellphone bill. The day to day necessities, like gas, has become a challenge to get when needed. We are just in a really difficult storm right now, and financially, we just can’t seem to catch a break.

We’ve tried everything we can think of to try and pay the necessities on time, but with just my income, we’ve fallen short every single time lately. We don’t know what else to do. Creating a Go Fund Me account was the last thing I wanted to turn to. I don’t want to beg anyone for money. I don’t like feeling like I’m taking from anyone, but we really have tried everything we could think of! We’ve even pawned irreplaceable items to try and get anything that could help us, but we’ve fallen short. We are behind on bills, and it’s just been beyond difficult to handle on our own anymore. We’ve come to the decision of reaching out for help in the very last choice we have, and that’s this Go Fund Me.

We know that this time of year is difficult for everyone because of the holidays. We don’t want you to feel pressured into giving us anything. If you aren’t able to give anything, we ask that you would pray for us. If it’s in your heart to give, and you have the means for it, we would so greatly appreciate it. Anything helps. You don’t have to feel the need to give us a huge amount either. We would appreciate even just a dollar because that’s a dollar more than what we have.

Richard and I want to wish you all well for the holiday season. We hope that you’re all doing ok. If you read this, and it touches your heart in anyway, we’d greatly appreciate it. However, even if you can’t give, that’s ok. If this post touches you in any way, and you can’t financially give either, we ask for a simple prayer, or even just a share of this post. My husband and I want to say thank you for even reading this. We know that it’s the holiday season, and we don’t want to cause anyone any obstacles either financially because you’d want to give to us. Please, please, please just remember that if you aren’t able to give us anything financially, we completely understand. We know that everyone has their own challenges they need to face.

It is from the bottom of our heart, & with our most sincere gratitude we thank you all, and we hope you have a fabulous holiday season! God bless!
