Richard "Fuzzy Merrill Medical Fund

Richard "Fuzzy" Merrill, husband, father, grandfather and friend, is a fun loving  generous man. He was a Firefighter/EMT with the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department and a lobsterman at Pine Point, Scarborough and always willing  to take care of our community and others as needed. He is always there when anyone needed help, even if you were to ask for the shirt off his back he would give you 2 (hope you like flannel)  His family are his gems and grandchildren the sparkle in his eyes.

Memorial Day Weekend 2017 Fuzzy was taken to the local hospital  for gallbladder/pancreas complications...which unexpectedly led to major surgery and acute pancreatitis taking a toll on his well being. Unfortunately the necessary care could not be handled by our local hospitals due to the severity of inflamation and infections. Now 3 months later and multiple procedures,  Fuzzy is at Mass General Hospital in Boston fighting for his life in order to return to Maine and resume a normal life.

Our family members are all praying for his health and are worried about the future. Under these current circumstances we are hoping through the kindness and generosity of others we will be able to get our family through these trying and critical times.

Fuzzy lives in Maine but has been located in MGH in Boston for sometime due to his acute condition requiring constant monitoring, tests, procuderes, therapies and waiting for his health to improve enough to perform hopefully the last few surgeries.

Fuzzy is making progress, though the journey has been quite a roller coaster - just a couple weeks ago he was speeding around MGH's halls with his walker and talks about being well enough to enter rehab back in Maine.

Fortunatley, MGH has been very accomodating  for the majority of Fuzzy's hospital stay allowing his wife Claudette, his rock and only piece of home, to be  able to stay by his bedside days and nights.

After a recent turn of events, Fuzzy has been placed in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit which prevents Claudette from being able to stay with him. As a result, Claudette has been been displaced and due to the distance from home (2 hours by car, one way) she is forced to stay at a nearby hotel, which allows her to be close enough to return to his side as quickley as needed.

He has a couple more expected procedures which could keep him another month in the hospital, not to mention weeks of post-hospital recovery.

It is our hope that your help can find new light for the future and give Fuzzy all the more reason to keep up his fight and help us all through this time of struggle.  We sincerely thank you for everything and anything you can give. God Bless

Hopefully soon Fuzzy will be well enough to be released from MGH and return home where he can work on his rehabilitation locally and the unexpected expenses of Claudette needing  hotel stays far from home can be eliminated.  Until then, your donations will lessen the stress of  the immeddiate out of pocket expenses of Boston city living and also months future medical expenses, post-hospital medications, care, dietary needs, the extended hotel stays and meal expenses.
