Richard Curtis Hintz, aged 85, passed away on January 11, 2026. We know how much he meant to so many of you, and we want to honor his legacy in a way that reflects the profound impact he had on our lives and the community. To celebrate Richard’s life, we are establishing the "Richard C. Hintz Memorial Endowment," that will be gifted to Otsego Public Schools for the purposes of:
- Funding the maintenance and operation of the OHS Auditorium in perpetuity
- Producing a Memorial Concert to celebrate the life and legacy of Richard C. Hintz, a public event that will bring together friends, family, former students, colleagues, and all who were touched by his creativity and generosity.
Richard was a force who inspired thousands of students, colleagues, and all who entered his realm. He provided for his family throughout his life and nurtured his daughter’s artistic growth from their earliest years through their developing careers. A brilliant and multifaceted artist, Richard created original works through set designs, musical compositions, murals, and perpetually festive table décor for family gatherings. He even designed the home he and Sandy have lived in for the past 21½ years. A self-taught gardener and cook, he loved entertaining.
A committee has been established to oversee our fundraising goals.
Please consider making a donation of any size to the Richard C. Hintz Memorial Fund. Your support will help us honor a man who devoted his life to his family, his students, and all things creative.
Thank you for helping us celebrate Richard’s legacy—your generosity means more than words can express.
