Brain tumors suck & so do hospital bills...

Donation protected

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Richard. He departed from us peacefully
yesterday, October 10th at 1:10pm, with his wife Jill and son Reed by his side. Our hearts are heavy with grief, and we request your thoughts and prayers for our family during this difficult time.

In Rich’s honor, we are sharing the gofundme which will help Jill and Reed in the coming months. A “Celebration of Life” announcement will be made when the family is ready.

We thank you all for your continued support and outpouring of love.

Many of you have been wondering how is Rich’s recovery process is going.
Here are some updates:
Since his 4th craniotomy on June 21st 2023 he has been suffering from expressive aphasia, also known as Broca's aphasia, which means at certain times he struggles to find the right words, and may put incorrect strings of words together (“word salad”) worse cases he can’t speak at all. He is coherent but literally cannot get his thoughts out vocally. We are now calling these “episodes” since it comes and goes. When this first happened a few weeks after surgery we rushed to the ER for a CT scan which showed no swelling and no infection which was great news. Then we realized these episodes are to be considered his new normal for the time being.

With that being said, we have had to travel back and forth from Sebastian to the UM of Miami because there are excellent doctors who specialize in these types of tumors. The travel expenses for the 3 hour drive there and back gets daunting. Dealing with extremely high insurance premiums & max out of pocket expenses any little donation towards this would really help. MRI and CT scans are vital in order to monitor how his brain is healing.

Rich hasn’t worked since September 2022, and is now on SSI disability. The kicker is he can’t get on Medicare for 2 years. Most meningioma tumors are slow growing but in Rich’s case they are aggressive. Sadly, one of the recent MRI report shows that the most recent tumor he had removed is already showing regrowth. He currently has 6 tumors that we are monitoring and planning radiation as soon as the brain is healed enough to proceed.

Rich’s healing process is ongoing and all the while he still manages to hold a sense of humor and a positive attitude. If you can donate just a little we would be very grateful.

A very special thank you to all our friends and family for all the love and support you have given us. Truly!

Sincerely #TeamHoltz
