Rich Glade Memorial Fund

Many of you know Carrie DaCruz, and if you don’t know her personally I’m sure you have seen her in HashTable Cafe at Google's Kirkland office managing the amazing food experiences we enjoy each day.  I’m writing to let you know, she needs our help! After 10 years of dating, Carrie and Rich were engaged in early November, and unfortunately, Rich lost his life in a ski accident this past Sunday.

Rich was an avid skier and used his talents to volunteer over the years to assist disabled skiers.  In fact, the morning of the accident, Sunday Dec. 11th, he had taught a disabled ski clinic, then went over to Alpental to take a few more runs.

If you would like to donate in Rich and Carrie’s honor there are a few ways you can:

Donate to this page! - the funds will be distributed evenly to Outdoors For All (www.outdoorsforall.org)
and the Adaptive Sports Center (www.adaptivesports.org) If you would like to earmark your funds to help Carrie with her expenses please do so.

More about Rich:

Rich was born in New Jersey and raised in Vermont.  He graduated with a business degree from the University of Vermont.  He had a true passion for skiing and learned from a young age at Killington and Pico. Not knowing what direction he wanted to go, he worked in food service on a small private Alaskan cruise line in the summer and travelled the world, skiing in the winters. Some of his favorite spots were Argentina, Scotland, and Italy.  He finally landed in Crested Butte, Co. where he worked in restaurants and taught adaptive skiing in the winters with the Adaptive Sports Center.  He helped people with all levels of disability including some who made it to the paralympics of which he was immensely proud.  He lived “off the grid” for a winter in a cabin he built with a friend and truly fell in love with the land and the mountain. He spent a total of ten years in Crested Butte and built a strong network of friends and family.

Rich had a true inner drive and not settling for less in his life he took off for Bend Oregon so he could gain residency to get a civil engineering degree at Portland State University.  He again worked in restaurants and the ski shop at Mount Bachelor. Rich and I met in 2006 while he was working at Bend Brewing Company and I was working at Deschutes Brewery finishing up my culinary degree.  He moved to Portland and I followed shortly after.  Upon graduating we moved to San Jose where I eventually joined the Bon Appetit @ Google family and he worked for SolarCity.

In 2014 we moved back to my hometown of Seattle where he immediately fell in love with the pacific northwest.  He soon found a great opportunity at Evluma as an inside sales engineer.  He was immensely passionate about the environment, conservation, and emerging technologies.  He was at peace and looking forward to the future. As soon as winter came, he immediately reached out to Outdoors For All and volunteered on the weekends at Stevens Pass teaching adaptive skiing.  In the winter of 2016 he decided to volunteer at Snoqualmie for the same program.  He lost his life on 12/11/16 on the mountain at Alpental doing something he truly loved.  In the days since his death, I have realized the reach of his compassion, love of friendship and family is so great.  We were engaged to be married and while we never made it to the actual ceremony, he will forever be my soulmate and I am so lucky to have shared my life with him.
