<div>Hello, my name is Ricardo Loza-Cavillo. Not long ago, I was just like anyone else — living a life filled with joy and hope, feeling comfortable and okay in a world that felt real and possible. I wasn’t weighed down by constant fear and hardship like I am now. Life has never been easy, but it was good.

<div>Now, everything has changed. Everything feels harder — from getting out of bed to cracking an egg at work. Four months ago, my world shattered when I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, not just in one place, but in my liver, lungs, spine, and pancreas. The cancer is everywhere and still spreading, creeping through me and stealing pieces of my life every day.

<div>For four months, I’ve been undergoing chemo sessions that blur into hospital stays, each lasting about 4 to 6 hours — a constant cycle of pain, exhaustion, missed work, and lost time with my family. I’ve lost so much weight; there is a drastic difference between how I looked before and now. I’ve battled jaundice multiple times. Because of the cancer, the doctors have had to change my chemo twice, but still, my body fights a battle I hope to win.

<div>The hardest part isn’t just the sickness — it’s the burden it has placed on everyone around me. I can no longer work the shifts I used to. Each day, the gap between what we need and what we have grows wider. Our finances are struggling as my wife carries the weight of the world on her shoulders, working as much as she can while also caring for me and managing the household. My stepdaughter is juggling the impossible — trying to finish school while searching for work to help keep us afloat.

<div>Our home has shifted, and now everything feels like a reminder of how fragile life is — from mortgage payments to utilities and basic bills. Our family is weighed down by pain, worry, and stress. And still, we fight. My family and I are fighting as hard as we can.
