Ricardo Carrasco Funeral Expense Fund

Father, brother, friend, veteran, ping pong player, motorcycle rider, coach, athlete, resident computer support. Ricardo Carrasco passed away on Friday, September 25th after a 1 1/2 year battle with cancer.
Ricardo marched to the beat of his own drum, with an unfiltered, but endearing personality. He always had a joke ready, most of them NSFW. Anyone who knew him will have many funny stories to tell. He was very smart, probably having read every book in the Mount St Mary's library and was a whiz at Jeopardy.
His family moved from El Paso to Mar Vista when Ricardo was young. When Ricardo was 13, they lost his father. In spite of the challenges, Ricardo excelled in school, both academically and as a track and field athlete, He graduated from St Monica High School, and then attended UCLA. In his 20's he was active in a program to help gang members break free of gangs, and coordinated events and fund raisers to advance the program.
When he was 27, he joined the army. His father and several uncles were in the military, including his namesake, who was killed in action in the Korean War, shortly before Ricardo was born. Ricardo told great stories of his experiences and the places he visited while in the army. During his time he earned many citations and badges, including Expert Infantryman Badge, and Expert Marksman Badges for M-16 rifle, .45 Caliber pistol and hand grenades. He earned the respect of his superiors and was the only non-officer that was allowed to carry his pistol while on base. He wasn't career military, but he was proud of his service.
He eventually married and had one son, also named Ricardo (Rick) When Rick was young, Ricardo coached him every year through Little League baseball. He also coached cross-country at St Monica High School, helping many boys and girls improve their skills and perform their best. He was very competitive and excelled as a 3,000M runner when he was young and, more recently, as a competitive ping pong player.
For the past 25 years he worked for Mount Saint Mary's College, where he "tortured" many of the students with his jokes and worked in the library and created the school's website. He loved playing basketball with the nuns at lunchtime.
Closer to home he was always a phone call away when his many nieces and nephews had a problem with their computer. He didn't take money, but he was always ready to "educate" them on how they messed up their computer while he fixed the problem.
But the center of his life was always Rick. He coached him in Little League, encouraged him to learn guitar, took him to the park to play basketball. They bonded over music and went to many concerts together, even if that meant Rick had to ditch school to go see Ozzy. They had a very strong father-son connection through life, and Rick is definitely feeling the loss of his best friend now.
Ricardo was an independent soul, who loved the freedom of riding his motorcycles. We all thought he was invincible, especially after he walked away from two freeway crashes with barely a scratch.
Unfortunately cancer reared its ugly head and took hold. He fought hard, regularly telling everyone that he was going to beat it, even as recently as this week. Sadly, his health deteriorated over the past few months. Ricardo's son and the rest of his family were by his side the whole time to make sure he was comfortable and felt their love.
Since he was going to beat cancer, he didn't make any arrangements for the alternative, so now his son and family are facing the unexpected expense of funeral and burial arrangements. Please help with what you can so they can focus on getting through their loss without having to worry about the money.
