Rian's Gender Affirmation Surgery

Donation protected
Hello!

Before I begin to tell you my story and what has brought me here, I'd like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land which I reside on, the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation. I would like to pay respect to the Elders, past, present and emerging. This WAS and ALWAYS WILL BE Aboriginal Land.

My name is Rian. Some of you will also know me as Aysha Buffet. My pronouns are She/Her. I am a queer performer and drag queen based in Melbourne, Australia. I am a proud trans woman who has been transitioning for 2 years now. I have been taking estrogen, testosterone blockers and other necessary steps towards my ultimate goal and dream of having gender affirmation surgery.

Having been a part of the queer community for years now, I've learnt that to uplift a queer person and allowing that person to shine is uplifting the WHOLE community and allowing the WHOLE community to shine. Everything we do as queer people reflects back on our community and so I'm hoping that with your help, I can truly live out my right to be my authentic self and continue to uplift the community.

2020 gave me the spark I needed to begin working towards my goal. Through the graciousness and generosity of so many around Australia and beyond, I was able to create masks to help raise funds for my surgery. Through that venture, I was able to make $20,000 in sales and even after repaying the cost of materials and labor, I was still left with an amount I never thought I'd ever have. Sadly, the surgery I am after, known as the Peritoneal Pull Through Vaginoplasty, is not common, not available in Australia and only available abroad which raises the cost of my surgery with the added costs of travel, medical travel insurance, recovery time and the depreciation of the Australian dollar. All of this taken into account, I will need approx. $50,000+.

It's taken some time but I've realised I can't raise these funds alone and the only way I can do this is by asking for some help. Surgery isn't for everyone but I really want and need this surgery to allow me to live my life as the woman that I am in the body I was denied. Although I have an incredible support team around me, it hurts to see my physical body not match the essence of who I am as a human.

Through my work, I've met some incredibly generous people. People who have invested their time with me as well as people who have donated in private. I'm so blessed to have so many kind people offering to donate so for me, I would only be able to accept this kind of generosity if in turn I was able to give some of that back.

That said, with your help in reaching my goal, I would like to donate $5000 to Minus18 . The youth of today are the leaders of the future and so I believe it is vital we invest in them. Minus18 is an amazing organisation that educates and advocate inclusion and empowering LGBTQIA+ young people. It's important to give young queer people a voice and ensure that they are seen, not alone and know that they are important.

I would like to donate another $5000 to a Victorian non-for-profit organisation called Womens Housing Limited . Nothing breaks my heart more than seeing women and children on the streets. WHL believe that ALL women have the right to safe, secure and affordable housing. Women and children make up a large percentage of those at risk of homelessness, usually due to escaping domestic violence. We are stronger when we are empowering each other and there is nothing I advocate more than women supporting women.

Lastly, I would like to donate $5000 to RACS  - Refugee Advice and Casework Service. A non-for-profit organisation that provides critical free legal advice, assistance and representation, for financially disadvantaged and vulnerable people seeking asylum in Australia. We are so fortunate to live in a country free of war, famine and have the luxury to live our lives as we see fit. I was fortunate enough to migrate to Australia where my family and I were given an opportunity for a better life. As humans, we should not deny that of those fleeing war torn countries and countries that deny them the right to be free. We must look after each other, our neighbours included.

So there it is: my story, why I need your help and how your kind donation can help me and the wider community.

I appreciate any amount donated and please know that if you're not able to donate, sharing is FREE and knowing that you've read about 3 really important organisations makes my heart sing!

Thank you for taking the time to read my GoFundMe and I'm sending all the light and love to you, wherever you are in the world!

Love, Rian/Aysha Buffet!
