Rhys's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
I have set up this page to help our dear friend Rhys and his family the McClures. They really need some help to keep up with the ongoing costs of Rhys's medical care.
Rhys also hasnt been able to start school and needs a tutor so that when he does finally make it he wont be years behind his peers.

Please help them to cover some of their costs in caring for Rhys. Whatever you can spare would be immensly appreciated. A days parking $10, a weeks worth of medication  $80,a months worth of dressing $150 a meal at RCH $15, a bit towards his new adjustable bed or torwards some tutoring, speech therapy or other physical therapy. There are just so many costs involved.

They have battled Rhys's IPEX like syndrome on their own for the past 7 years. But having a chronically ill child is expensive. Rhys's weekly medical expenses are significant and he now also needs an adjustable bed to sleep in. This will help with his reflux, vomitting and breathing now that he's on oxygen. The bed alone is $3000.00. Rhys mum hasn't been able to work since Rhys was diagnosed as he is highly dependant on her for his medical care. Last year they spent $3000.00 alone just on car parking at the hospital. So instead of a family holiday The McClures paid for carparking. Instead of having a mortgage they pay for dressings and medication.

This level of care also has its physical toll. Rhys's mum provides around the clock care for Rhys when they are home. This means she survives on a few hours sleep every night.  It would be great if every now and then she could have a night off. But Rhys requires and Registered Nurse to provide his care and getting one in to give mum a break is $100 per hour. Much needed respite the family just can not afford.

I am sure many of you never knew just how significant the out of pocket expenses are.
Thankyou for taking the time to read about Rhys and his family and thankyou for your help. Please share his page and his story so we can help Rhys and his family.

Meet Rhys. A cheeky fun loving little guy. Rhys first came to the Royal Childrens Hospital when he was just 4 months old. He has since spent more than half his life as an inpatient that equates to over 1200 days as an inpatient. On top of that he has had countless outpatient appointments.  Rhys has undergone 2 bone marrow tranplant, had over 260 blood transfusions, a spleenectomy, lung biopsy and countless other procedures.  It a slow road to recovery and Rhys is now having issues with his lung. He is also still unable to eat and is dependant on intravenous feeds to survive.
