<div>My name is Denise Murphy and I am reaching out for your support on behalf of my granddaughter Kayla, my daughter Elisha and her partner Kevin.

<div>This is our gorgeous Kayla. Kayla and her parents have had a difficult journey from the beginning. Throughout Elisha's pregnancy with Kayla there were complications which led to frequent hospital appointments. Kayla was born in June 2023 and spent a month in the special care baby unit due to poor weight gain and feeding issues.

<div>At 3 months old Kayla developed an oral aversion which led to a Nasogastric tube being inserted for feeding. From then on Kayla had regular hospital appointments.
</div>

<div>In May 2024, Kayla developed a serious infection. She was transferred to Crumlin Children's hospital where she was diagnosed with a life threatening extremely rare condition. This condition causes Kayla's immune system to be suppressed. This places Kayla in a precarious position with a high risk for dangerous infections, cancer and mortality. The only known cure is chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. If Kayla does not have the transplant she will have a much shorter life expectancy.

<div>This treatment is not available in Ireland so Kayla will be having this treatment in The Great North Children's Hospital in Newcastle. Kayla will be travelling to The Great North Children's Hospital with her parents Kevin and Elisha on the 3rd of September for the transplant assessment which involves numerous tests to ensure Kayla is fit for transplant.

<div>Kayla will then receive an expected date in the coming weeks/months. When the date is scheduled, she will be admitted to the hospital in Newcastle for the transplant which involves chemotherapy, blood infusions, the transplant and aftercare.
</div>

<div>The treatment in Newcastle is expected to last several months. This is where we need your support for Kayla, Kevin and Elisha through the financial burden this will have when they go to Newcastle to give Kayla the best chance of a long healthy life. As Kevin and Elisha will be unable to work, we are reaching out to you for your help at this difficult time.
