RHGC Captains Charities Golf Marathon

On 22nd September 2022, Karl Edwards (Men's Captain at RHGC) and David Campbell (Director of RHGC) will be attempting to play 18 holes at Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club Old Course, then walking (with their clubs - no trolleys) to Reigate Heath Golf Club to play another 18 holes. The walk is approximately 19 miles (with our sub-standard ball-striking we think it will be at least 26.2 miles including the golf), so first tee-off at Royal Ashdown will be at the crack of dawn!!! Obviously, as a finely tuned athlete, The Captain should have no trouble with this!

The event will be in aid of Youth: Action for Mental Health Support (Y:AMHS). More information about Y:AMHS can be found at www.yamhs.co.uk, but Rachael Colbran (Founding Trustee) has been kind enough to provide the following high-level summary as to what they do and why…

‘Children and young people are waiting up to two years for mental health treatment from local services in our area. With CAMHS (Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services) struggling to keep up with the demand for help, we became worried about the children and families for whom treatment would not be available at the time they need it. Research shows that half of all adult mental health issues manifest by the age of 14, underlining the need for timely intervention. So we've set out to do something about the situation by raising money to pay for the treatment young people so desperately need and deserve.

In addition, we will provide support to parents and carers by providing a space where they can share their concerns and worries with others who understand without being judged.’

As many of you know, youth mental health support is a topic particularly close to The Captain's heart, so all and any donations will be most gratefully received.
