Competition Mat Fund

It began with a vision, a need for somewhere women and girls of all ages could come to learn and develop their skills while fostering a sense of community, confidence, and well-being. Miruna Timotin saw this need in Fredericton and set to work creating a space where athletes could not only progress in their sport but discover the benefits of rhythmic gymnastics in all areas of their lives.

This space became Rhapsody Rhythmic Gymnastics, a non-profit organization that has allowed us to bring the love of the sport to Fredericton since 2013.

Born and raised in Romania, Miruna was professionally trained in rhythmic gymnastics for ten years, competing on national and international stages before immigrating to Canada and founding Rhapsody Rhythmic Gymnastics.

When she came to Canada, she was struck by the fact that parents have to pay for their children to participate in sports, something she quickly realized was a barrier for lower-income families. She set out to shrink this barrier and offer access to the sport for those who wouldn’t ordinarily have had it. This is the primary goal of our organization.

We are a non-profit organization deeply rooted in the community. From the beginning, we wanted to ensure that training would be accessible for every income level, so not only are the fees very low for the quality of training the gymnasts receive, we also offer additional affordability options for low-income families.

All of the work done for the organization, except for the coaching itself, is done completely by volunteers. Countless hours are put into ensuring the gym is successful and that families of all income levels are able to enroll their young athletes.

Consistently focused not on profit, but on creating a greater passion for this beautiful Olympic sport along with high-quality training by knowledgeable coaches, Rhapsody Rhythmic Gymnastics is now looking to the future.

We are working towards purchasing a competition mat. Currently, we are using the same mat that we’ve had since we started, which is an artistic gymnastics mat rather than the official rhythmic gymnastics type mat that is required to host any competitions.

The $18,000 required to purchase the competition mat is a big hurdle for an organization like ours, but we are committed to giving our athletes the greatest opportunities possible. Having a competition mat would open many doors for them, but also for Rhapsody RG as it would mean that we would be able to host competitions, bringing in competitors from around the province and beyond.

This would result in revenue for the club and direct benefits for the Fredericton community in the form of accommodations and further spending by traveling athletes and their families.

We are asking the community to support us in our goal to continue to provide quality experiences and even greater opportunities for our athletes. You can be confident in your donation, knowing that it is going directly into expanding rhythmic gymnastics in Fredericton and investing in the future of our young people.
