Ricky Gene Powell fightin the big C

#RGPNC <- more info
Ricky Gene Powell (or RGP as his friends like to call him) is a force of nature to be "rock-on'd" with. He is a Seattle mainstay in the arts and music communities. He has given all he's got to our community in terms of his talent as a musician and as an organizer over the years and is an inspiration to all who hang out with him.

About 10 years ago, Ricky Gene was able to beat cancer (stage 3 kidney), but I'm saddened to say that it has returned to his body and he's ready to fight it all over again. While the doctors are hopeful that this bout can be treated (stage 2), we as a community are worried and would like to appeal to you to help us help our friend.

He will need to take time off work once he gets into chemo which is extremely devastating for a full-time musician because if there are no gigs, there are no paychecks and the absence of artistic expression is a debilitating facet that only adds to the difficulty of the situation.

Any amount of money you can donate from $5 to $500 dollars will be given directly to Ricky Gene to help him with the day to day costs of living with this horrible disease. He will need to pay rent, buy food, keep his car running and will also have to pay for travel costs for family to come stay with him to help and support him through this rough spot.

I am confident that with medical advances and our support he WILL make it through this and will continue to be a part of our lives for years to come. We need him here to continue to run the workshops at Wintergrass and perform with Deadgrass and to contribute to all the fun Fremont Arts activities that he has been a part of for decades.

Time is of the essence! His treatment will begin in late February and he will need to have his ducks in a row before then. Please consider clicking the button to donate RIGHT NOW it's a super easy way to give back to your community to someone who gives of himself daily.

update:
Ricky had his first round of chemo last week and it was HARD physically and mentally. In true RGP form, he continues to have a positive attitude! Now that we have gathered a tidy pile of cash for him- we plan to present it to him in person at his concert this Friday (Feb. 9) when Deadgrass opens for Hot Buttered Rum at Nectar! Please plan to join us...

On Ricky Gene's request the withdrawl process for this fund has been set up to go to my personal bank account so he doesn't have to fiddle with connecting it to his account. I will be presenting the cash money to Ricky live and on stage so we can all share in the gratitude  that he has been expressing to me for all of your generous donations!

What the $ is for:
RGP is getting great care from his medical professionals through his insurance BUT.... this money will help him relax knowing that rent is paid and he can buy his medications and good healthy food and keep gas in the car. Also, he will be able to helping some of his dearest family members with their travel costs to come visit and be a part of his recovery.

Thanks for making this all possible!
