Help Zane get Specialized Therapy!

Donation protected
A little over two years ago, on January 26, 2015, the unthinkable happened. Zane was in a tragic accident while staying with his Grandma in North Carolina. At 21 months old, he fell in the backyard pool, which wasn’t covered and had access from the master bedroom. After 84 minutes of CPR, which was first started by a neighbor poolside, then first responders in the ambulance, and then at the hospital, they thankfully got a heartbeat. He was in a coma and PICU for a few weeks, inpatient rehab for a few weeks and finally sent home after his 2nd birthday in April.

He has worked very hard these last two years. Even though we were told he would never show emotion, breathe on his own, track his eyes or swallow, he has! We were initially told to "pull the plug" because "he will always be a vegetable," but thank God we pressed forward, believing in Zane’s strength and passion for life! Zane has come so far and shown us how much of a fighter he is. We are so proud of him and his recovery. Everyday is a constant blessing as we get to hold, touch, smell and talk to him everyday.

Life is now a slow process of healing, and although we face plateaus here and there, he is still progressing. Baby steps. He can hold his head up, seizures have lessened, he smiles and laughs, he looks you in the eye, swallows yogurt with his awesome therapists, rolls over, pushes with his legs in his walker, makes different noises, tries to speak, and the biggest blessing of all, he knows who we are. His life is an inspiration to us, and we will continue to try anything possible to bring him one step closer to his full potential. We are lucky to have good insurance that covers most therapies and medications, but it does not cover everything. It is hard to imagine what life would be like without our friends and family, near and far, for supporting, loving, and thinking and praying for Zane. There are no words that can ever express what that means to us.

Our goal with this page is to raise funds to take Zane to a specialized therapy in New Orleans. The therapy is called HBOT (oxygen therapy in a hyperbaric chamber). Dr. Harch has been brought to our attention more than once and we have heard some pretty amazing success stories. This therapy is quite expensive though, as insurance does not cover it. So we are hoping to raise enough to help cover the expenses for this treatment, which will take 4-8 weeks depending on how long we are able to stay. Here is more info about the doctor and the specific therapy we are looking at: http://www.hbot.com/about-practice. Thank you again for all your support these last two years!!!
