Building the 1'st Hospice Residence for Malawi

Yathu Hospice Malawi 
Malawi is one of the countries in the world with a highest HIV/AIDS/ Cancer morbirdity and mortality rates. Yet with a population of 18 Million of which more than 1 Million are People Living with HIV, the country has only 3 hospices and none is residential.

Yathu Foundation Malawi through Yathu Hospice and its partners, are committed to enhancing healthcare in Malawi.  Malawians deserve to have access to a full range of healthcare options – as is the case with other communities in many developed and developing countries – and this includes hospice care in a residential setting.

A hospice residence will offer an essential choice to individuals for whom dying at home is not an option and alleviate the pressures on acute care resources. In providing respite to families, the hospice residence will encourage multi-generational activities such as cooking, dining, visiting, reading, music, child and youth engagement and daily living. 

Yathu Foundation Malawi is currently on a capital campaign to build the 1st East and Central African residential hospice. At a projected cost of 84 thousand Canadian Dollar, the palliative care centre and an 8-bed residential hospice will require significant private sector, foundation, corporate and community support. The financial goal includes the building of the new structure and furnishings.  Please join us in constructing this monumental place of hope, love, peace, compassion and dignity by making a donation of any amount.

Yathu Hospice is a community-based organization in Lilongwe ( Malawi) mandated to provide hospice palliative care services to individuals and their loved ones with life limiting conditions, facing end of life, and those going through grief and loss.

Presently, all of the programs and services are provided at no fee.
