Namaste Everyone,
My name is Sakaar Thapa, 8 year old from Biratnagar,Nepal.I have hearing impairment on both of my ears.I don’t talk as I haven’t heard any word since 7 years. I didn’t get admission in disabled School as teacher thinks I am too difficult to handle. Disable kids are always challenging but our system does nothing to help kids like me.
I have a sister who tries to make me understand but I don’t understand how to respond to that. I have sense of hungry, basic needs and been attempting those basic needs by gestures.
When I was 1-2 year old, I got very sick that doctor couldn’t know what was wrong with me. They were treating me with high dose of antibiotics just to keep me alive as they couldn’t find any diagnosis.
Sometime they said I had meningitis, sometime they say I have TB, Pneumonia, Thyroid issues and all other problems.
My family did everything to make me alive but no one was aware I will have hearing impaired at that age due to aggressive antibiotics.
And we all know how the health system works in our country.
We went to KTM did lots of test but found no one who could say how this happen.We went to CMC Vellore, India and they took my thyroid out as it was all infected.
They were the first doctor to tell they can fix it by putting cochlear implant in my both ears. But the cost was over 30 Lakhs Nepalese and with the stay of 6 month in India which was impossible for my family with only one income coming from my father who is working in Saudi. He hasn’t seen much of us as he is earning hard for us and away from us.
We found Dr. Rabindra who is doing cochlear implants in KTM and is willing to do surgery on me.But the cost is over 10 lakhs and my family could not afford the cost.We already sold all our golds and a plot of land which we had as only property for my treatment since last 7 years. Now, we got nothing besides expectation from you all. Please help me.
