Colton's Leukemia Journey

Donation protected
One day Colton was like most normal 2 and a half year-old boys... riding his bike, playing with his toys and friends at daycare, running around with the dogs, hugging his baby sister, hating bath time, and carefree... or so we thought. But on March 24, 2015, everything changed dramatically when Colton was hospitalized and later diagnosed with leukemia.

Colton had been getting a lot of bruises for a few weeks, but we chalked up to him playing outside more as the weather got better, and basically just being a boy. Then he got a fever and what looked like a rash. Thinking it could be the beginning of chicken pox, Nicole (his mom) took him to see the pediatrician. The doctor ordered a blood test and told Nicole to retun to the office. The results showed that Colton's blood counts were so low that he needed to be rushed to the hospital in Roseville for a blood transfusion.

Once at at the hospital things got pretty rough. A 2 year-old doesn't understand why he's repeatedly  prodded and poked with needles. He got IVs in both hands and numerous blood tests. The following day a pediatric oncologist said they suspected leukemia and ordered a bone marrow biopsy. On March 26th, Colton was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and the following day he had a surgery to place a port in his chest and had his first chemo treatment.

The road ahead will be a tough one. The doctors have told us that it's typcally a three-year treatment plan. So far Colton has had two spinal chemo treatments, IV chemo, and takes oral medicines. Thankfully Colton is responding well and we were able to go home from the hospital the day before Easter. For now, the plan is Colton will need to travel to the pediatric oncology clinic in Roseville, two hours from home, for chemo treatments, one to two times per week.

Colton's immune system is very fragile and it is very dangerous if he gets a virus or infection so we have to limit exposure to other people at this time. It will be a long time before Colton can go out to the park or public areas to play with children, so we've decided to build a backyard area where Colton can play. It's one of those things that we've wanted to do but with limited time and money, it was put on hold. Now we're trying to find a way to make this a reality.  The money donated will go towards Colton's medical expenses, travel to treatments, and play area.

We are so touched and thankful for all of the prayers, well wishes, and offers of help. The love and kindness from family, friends, and friends of friends is awesome and amazing. If you would like to help, we ask first for your prayers. We ask you to join us in praying to God to help Colton get well and be strong, and give us strength too. If you would like to help with a contribution, we thank you for your generosity and we are humbled.
