Rey Roberts' Hospital Fund

Donation protected
Rey Roberts is perhaps the most courageous person I know.  He has faced many adversities from childhood through adulthood and he's always faced them head on with grit and determination, even with the odds stacked against him .  This fight is different though!

As a Paramedic, he is very well acquainted with the role of caretaker.  He is a compassionate, empathetic, non-judgmental Paramedic with a huge heart that works very hard to serve his community.  His wife, Shon, is also a servant of the people and is an Emergency Medical Technician.  Together as a working team, they have brought scores of patients to hospitals

2 weeks ago however, Rey's trip to the hospital was not tending to a patient in the back of the ambulance.  Instead he was the patient.

Rey began feeling abdominal pain and experienced severe nausea and vomiting on August 4th.  In typical Rey fashion, he tried to persevere and push through the pain.

By Sunday morning though, the abdominal pain was so great that he begged his wife Shon to take him to the Emergency Room.  He was diagnosed with gastritis.  Gastritis is an inflammation, irritation, or erosion of the lining of the stomach.  Rey was sent home from the ER with medication for nausea and told to take it easy for a few days.  Rey went home and followed the doctor's orders, but was unable to keep down any food and the severity of the abdominal pain increased.

Monday came and with it another visit to the emergency room.  This time he was admitted to the hospital to monitor an unusually high white blood cell count.  Pain medications were administered to keep him comfortable.

Tuesday saw more of the same but with an increase in his white blood cell count.

By Wednesday, he was forced to face the diagnosis of a ruptured appendix which is extremely painful, dangerous and potentially life threatening.

Doctors are giving Rey high doses of pain medication and he is also being treated with potent antibiotics  The ruptured appendix has caused  a number of large abscesses within his abdominal cavity.  Each abscess requires a drain which requires a surgical procedure to insert that drain. When an abscess is present, there are higher complication rates associated with an appendectomy surgery, so Rey's doctors are trying to resolve the abscesses first.

In short, this means that Rey not only has surgical drain insertion procedures scheduled for the next few days, but also faces an appendectomy within the weeks to come after his body rids itself of an intense infection.

While Rey does have health insurance to cover most of the medical bills, he will be unable to work for quite some time to come.  During his time in the hospital, his wife Shon is unable to work.  They have a son and a daughter, so Shon is dividing her time between caring for their children and caring for her husband.

At this time their families are unable to help monetarily which leaves them facing possible eviction and loss of utilities all while Rey is trying to recover.  Life in general does not stop and the costs associated with that life continue to accrue.

On behalf of my dear friends, I ask for your help!  Whatever you are able to give would be most appreciated. There are school fees, school supplies and school clothes all still to be paid.  The gas bill, the water bill...all the costs of life.  But when neither of these incredible people are able to work serving their community, they are unable to pay their bills.

$1500 will not cover all of their needs which includes associated medical costs that insurance will not cover, but it will be a start.

Think back in your life.  Was there never a time when you needed a helping hand?  Was there never a time when someone reached out to you with assistance?

Bearing in mind that blessings are returned tenfold to those who offer assistance to their fellow man, I humbly ask you for your contribution.  No dollar amount is too small or too large.  If you are unable to give monetarily, I ask you to pray for healing for Rey.

I thank you in advance for your help!  May God bless you for your generosity and your prayers.
