Reynaldo (Rey) J. Pascual, 76, along with his wife, Diana Ignacio Pascual, 71, returned to their heavenly home on January 20, 2018, after a tragic van crash took their lives in Cebu City, Philippines. They were touring the area before beginning a volunteer medical mission with their college classmates.
Rey was born in Rizal, Philippines on October 21, 1941 to the late Melquiades and Leoncia Pascual. He attended the University of the East in Manila, Phil. for Accounting. In his last semester, Rey enlisted in the United States Navy where he was promoted to a Chief Petty Officer, serving his country for over 20 years. Rey was stationed all over the world including: Spain, Italy, as well as Norfolk, VA, Washington D.C. and finally Brooklyn, NY.
Diana was born in Manila, Philippines on September 15, 1946 to the late Gregorio and Eriberta Ignacio. She graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Phil. with a B.S. in Nursing and later became a Nurse Practitioner. After working in a variety of hospitals including, Montefiore, Phelps Memorial and St. Joseph’s, she retired from St. Vincent’s Hospital in April, 2017, having a nursing career spanning 50 years. She loved to travel and made it a goal to explore the world every month after retirement.
Rey and Diana were married in The Bronx, NY on January 12, 1974 and moved to White Plains, NY, where they happily lived with their immediate and extended family for 37 years.
Rey was a self-proclaimed “handy man” and enjoyed cooking with his plethora of kitchen gadgets. He enjoyed gardening and loved showing off his beautiful flowers and bounty of vegetables, which he readily shared with everyone.
Diana, a breast cancer survivor of over 10 years, loved being a nurse. She enjoyed helping others and changed so many lives, not only professionally, but also personally, with her outgoing personality and caring nature.
More than anything, Rey and Diana cherished their family, especially their granddaughters, Ashley Lara and Madeline Joy Leano. Rey and Diana are survived by their three children: Marcus Ray Pascual, Jan Marie Pascual Leano, and Paul James Pascual. Diana’s siblings: Oscar, Sonia, Lor, and Greg. Rey’s siblings: Loretta, Joseph, and Socorro.
Their children plan on bringing their parents back home to New York so their loved ones have the opportunity to say one last goodbye.
