Rev. Benjamin Capshaw - Funeral & Children's Fund

On Thursday, August 19th, the Elwood community lost a beloved pastor, a devoted husband, and an awesome father to two young sons. Rev. Benjamin James Capshaw went to be with Jesus following an automobile accident just south of Elwood. He leaves behind his wife, Amanda (Miller); two sons, Isaac and Noah; mother and step-father, Pat and Mike; and many other extended family members. "Pastor Ben" as his congregation lovingly referred to him, was the Senior Pastor of Central Wesleyan Church in Elwood for the past nine years. The church has thrived under his leadership. This tragic event leaves the Elwood community with heavy hearts; but most importantly - leaves a family without its husband and father; and a church family without their beloved pastor. Ben was currently serving as the Chaplain for the City of Elwood under Mayor Todd Jones. He and his family have been very active in Elwood for many years, and they were currently pursuing their dream of establishing "Catalyst Youth Center" in Elwood as a safe haven for local youth.

This fund has been established in cooperation with his family to provide assistance for funeral expenses and a fund for future expenses for Isaac and Noah. Any help that donors can provide will go directly to the family's obligations and expenses. Ben was beloved by the Elwood community, and this is a way to return that love to Amanda, Isaac, and Noah at this very difficult time. The coming days, weeks, and months will bring changes to the Capshaw family that no one could have ever predicted.

Ben had a heart for "the least, lost, left-out, looked over, and left behind". His family knows exactly where his spirit lives on - in the presence of Jesus. Colossians 2:5 tells us, "For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is." Pastor Ben will live on in our hearts and the lives he has touched in years of ministry serving the Lord.

A community vigil in Pastor Ben's honor was held on Saturday evening, August 21st, at Central Wesleyan Church where the community turned out to show their love of Ben. A full obituary is available at www.copherfeslermay.com.
