<div>unser Herzstück – ein Magirus LF15 aus dem Jahr 1935 – steht nahezu still. Und damit ein einzigartiges Stück Feuerwehrgeschichte.

<div>Dieses Fahrzeug ist seit 1948 fester Bestandteil der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr Güsten und wird seit vielen Jahrzehnten liebevoll gepflegt und bei Veranstaltungen, Jubiläen und Traditionsfahrten eingesetzt. Es ist nicht nur ein Oldtimer – es ist ein rollendes Denkmal der Feuerwehrgeschichte.

<div>Doch der Motor, der bereits 1942 im Magirus-Werk Ulm auf Diesel (Typ S88R) umgebaut wurde, bereitet seit Jahrzehnten massive Probleme. Über die Jahre wurde er mehrfach notdürftig repariert:
</div>
<div>•	In der DDR-Zeit wurde ein Kolben samt Pleuel ausgebaut und die Zylinderöffnung provisorisch mit einem Aluklotz verschlossen, der teils dadurch entstandene gravierende Motorschaden wurde notdürftig vom ehemaligen Wehrleiter Klaus Schmidt geschweißt – seitdem ist diese Ecke eine permanente Schwachstelle.

<div>•	1992 wurden in Hamburg Buchsen in den Motorblock eingeschrumpft.
</div>
<div>•	2008 wurden in Berlin (bei der Firma Wilhelm Schmidt GmbH) zwei neue Zylinderlaufbuchsen für die Zylinder 5 und 6 eingeschrumpft, da diese zuvor gerissen sind.
</div>
<div>•	2024 wurde die Zylinderkopfdichtung defekt, daraufhin haben wir in diesem Jahr eine neue Dichtung bei der Firma Elring GmbH anfertigen lassen.
</div>

<div>Trotz all dieser Bemühungen verschlechtert sich der Zustand des Motors zusehends – und wir stehen kurz davor, unser Traditionsfahrzeug für immer stilllegen zu müssen.
</div>

<div>Doch es gibt Hoffnung:
</div>
<div>Wir hatten kürzlich die einmalige Gelegenheit, einen originalen Magirus Motor fast gleicher Bauart mit dem Baujahr 1938 zu erwerben! Dieser Motor (Typ S88D) ist dem Alter entsprechend in einem gutem Zustand – muss jedoch vor dem Einbau fachgerecht revidiert werden. Nur so kann unser Magirus-Traditionsfahrzeug weiter sicher und zuverlässig laufen.

<div>Our pride and joy – a Magirus LF15 from 1935 – has come to a standstill. And with it, a unique piece of firefighting history.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This vehicle has been an integral part of the Volunteer Fire Department of Güsten since 1948 and has been lovingly maintained for decades, appearing at events, anniversaries, and traditional parades. It is not just an old-timer – it is a rolling monument of firefighting history.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But the engine, which was converted to diesel (S88R) at the Magirus factory in Ulm back in 1942, has caused serious problems for decades. Over the years, it has only been repaired provisionally:
</div>
<div>•	During the GDR era, one piston and connecting rod were removed, and the cylinder opening was closed with an aluminum block. The resulting severe engine damage was welded by former fire chief Klaus Schmidt – since then, this part has remained a permanent weak point.
</div>
<div>•	In 1992, cylinder liners were shrunk into the engine block in Hamburg.
</div>
<div>•	In 2008, in Berlin (at Wilhelm Schmidt GmbH), two new cylinder liners were installed for cylinders 5 and 6 after they had cracked.
</div>
<div>•	In 2024, the cylinder head gasket failed, and we had a new gasket specially manufactured by Elring GmbH.
</div>

<div>Despite all these efforts, the condition of the engine continues to deteriorate – and we are on the verge of having to retire our historic vehicle permanently.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But there is hope:
</div>
<div>We recently had the unique opportunity to acquire an original Magirus engine of almost the same type from 1938! This engine (S88D) is in relatively good condition for its age – but it must be professionally overhauled before installation. Only then can our Magirus heritage vehicle continue to run safely and reliably.
</div>

<div>The overhaul will cost around €25,000.
</div>

</div>
<div>As a volunteer heritage association, we cannot cover this amount on our own. That is why we are asking for your support.
