On a journey of spiritual awakening
I am headed to a remote mountainous region of Aragón in Northern Spain for a three-month retreat. No email. No computer. Just immersion into a supportive spiritual community in a breathtakingly beautiful setting away from daily life distractions and obsessions. Will you support me on this journey of transformation to living a life of compassion, kindness and wisdom?
Why am I going?
I have been a spiritual seeker all my life. And I have been meditating for more than 40 years. For the past seven years, in particular, I have practiced with the Triratna Buddhist Community, a growing circle of friends that stretches from New England to centers around the world. This is my path of deepening my commitment to cultivate generosity, compassion, kind-heartedness, connectedness, deep and supportive friendships and a willingness to put myself out there on behalf of and for the benefit of others.
I have been invited to “go forth” to this sacred place from April until July to join my friends and teachers in Triratna. Minus all those life distractions, I will have the chance to wake up to life as it is and not as I wish it would be. This is a chance to act and live with more kindness and generosity to myself and to others. I will take the wisdom and experience I gain back home to continue my work with nonprofits, giving a voice to those less fortunate and spreading the Dharma of kindness and generosity. I feel truly blessed and honored to have this opportunity, and I ask for your help in supporting this transforming journey.
Why I need your support
My dear friend and spiritual teacher Amala of Maine (next to me, on the left in the photo) will be there with me for two weeks to welcome me into the Triratna community. She has been my guide into this world of deeper awareness and commitment.
Your support will get us both to the Akashavana Retreat Center in Spain and back home again. Your generosity will help pay for the retreat, airfare, bus travel to and from airports in the US and from Barcelona to the retreat center, and a few nights in hotels before and after the retreat. Akashavana is three hours from the nearest airport so it’s quite a journey. I will walk the last hour or two into the retreat center.
I also am taking a leave from my work as a nonprofit fundraiser with no income for those three months. This is a BIG leap of faith for me. I am trusting that all will be well. I will get by with a lot of help from my friends. Will you help?
