Retired Military Working Dog, Kay, Surgery

Hello Internet, my name is Kay and I spent almost 5 years in the US Army within United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) and completed 4 successful deployments.  My human went on to spend a little over 11 years in the Army before he sustained some career-ending injuries that made our walks slower and he had to go look for a new place to go to every morning when he leaves the house.

We had lots of great times overseas, I would run around sniffing for things and sometimes, if I found something, a big red ball would pop up. Other times when I found things, my human would get very scared and pull me away and pet me.  I even got to run through houses and fields and find people to wrestle with!!! That was my favorite part.  Sometimes there were lots of loud noises and bangs like fireworks that shook our vehicles, but at least we got to have car rides.  We also had car rides in the air with lots of wind and new smells!

Now that I am retired, I get to hang out on the couch at home and sleep on all sorts of soft beds.  I have slowed down in my elder years.  I am almost 14 but me and my humans still have lots of fun together.  Usually, I do not eat things I am not supposed to; but, apparently I ate something that was not food, a treat, or anything close.  Whatever it was, it made my tummy hurt very badly.  I got very sick and had to take lots of car rides to the place where humans look at your eyes, and ears, and sometimes stick me with things...but give me treats afterwards, so it is ok.  This time they did not give me ANY treats, but my tummy hurt too bad to eat them anyway.

Then, they laid me down.... and I woke up very groggy with the Cone of Shame on!  I was too tired to care though.  My tummy felt better, but I had other spots that hurt and they took some of my fur away so my belly was cold!

Since then, I have continued to feel better and better every day.  My humans took the Cone of Shame off, but they put it back on if I groom myself too much.  I am able to eat small meals again and I am even starting to follow my female human to the cookie jar.  That is where I get the delicious treats....ohhhh I miss them so much.

If you are able to help my humans, please do so.  My mommy human gives me good massages she calls Simon Massages and gives me those scrumptious treats.  My daddy human and I have been through  a lot and we are inseparable.  I follow him into every room and never let him leave my sight.  The amount my humans posted covers the majority of the medical bills.  I apologize for asking for free handouts (this is not in my nature, except when it comes to treats from the cookie jar) but I can tell my humans sometimes get nervous or scared when they are petting me.

Once again thank you for your time Internet, and thanks for helping my humans find delicious treats, and comfortable beds, and ways to make my arthritis feel better, and all those other things you do.
