Welcome to the Church of the Resurrection!
We are an Episcopal congregation located in Kew Gardens/Richmond Hill, New York, in the borough of Queens. Our Church has deep roots in the community. We are the oldest church in Richmond Hill with our current building having been dedicated in 1874. Resurrection was the home parish of the renowned social reformer, Jacob Riis. And from its founding the church has been an inclusive, diverse and socially engaged faith community. We have a vibrant congregation that meets every Sunday to worship in the beautiful and historic church led by the Rev. Dr. Joshua Samuel, our Priest-in-Charge.
Aside from the Sunday services we provide a variety of services on site that meet the needs of the congregation and the community at large. Cummings Hall, a 2100 square foot gathering place, is where many of these ministries take place. The hall is the home for our free senior lunches, parish fairs, community celebrations, and rummage, bake & book sales, all of which are open to the community. We also provide space for social service organizations such as Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous to hold their weekly meetings. The hall is also used by other faith groups such as the All Saints Romanian Orthodox Church for their Sunday fellowship and community events. Of course, it is also where we gather for coffee and fellowship after our Sunday service.
We see this space as an integral part of our future plans to expand our ministries in the community. Unfortunately, time has taken a toll on the floors and they are in desperate need of renovation and repair. We are a dedicated group but small in number, and hence our resources have been spread thin over the wide range of repairs required in keeping a 144 year old church in working order. We are seeking $20,000 towards the replacement of the hall floor. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated and if a monetary contribution is not possible please spread the word and share the link above with your friends and family. Thank you for your consideration.
