Restoring St Paul's Church for our community

Donation protected
Clapton Community SDA Church are fundraising to restore and repair the old St Pauls Church building into a safe space that serves the local community as well as offers a place to worship.

The building has been a haven during the COVID-19 pandemic to help those in need by:
- providing a baby bank for those needing basic items for their children
- making visors for NHS and key workers in need of PPE
- providing a food bank for those who have fallen on hard times

We want to continue using our church to elevate our community

What we hope to achieve
- further facilities for the growing E5 baby bank
- community services for elderly and young people
- a community facility for young parents

What the funds will go towards
Rebuilding and repairing the floor, fixing and painting the walls, purchasing portable cabins for the E5 baby bank and installing a hearing loop.

St Paul's Church is a Grade ll listed building, which means it requires specialist permission, skill set and materials - which cost a lot of money and time. And so we are very grateful for any funds raised for this needed project.

Our first priority is to rebuild and repair the floors so that it is safe to move onto the other works. Any funds you are able to donate will go straight towards completing this first. Thank you in advance!

About the restoration of St. Paul's Church
St Paul’s Church of England building  was built in 1891 by the Grocers Company under the Lady Slaney Trust. This local historical and architectural heritage has a Grade ll listing status, and holds fond memories for many who were Christened or married here. Unfortunately the church was left derelict for a period of 25 years and during this time it fell into a terrible state of disrepair.

In March 2006, the Clapton Community Seventh-day Adventist Church purchased the lease with the vision to restore this magnificent piece of historical artefact to its former glory and make improvements where possible. The total restoration cost of St Paul’s Church is estimated at over £1.5million, partly attributed to the Grade ll listing status.

To date, a considerable amount of work has already been undertaken, including:
- Complete re-roofing
- Restored stained glass windows
- Rewiring
- Plumbing: heating
- Construct disability access
- Rebuilt wall / fencing
- Improved kitchen facilities
- Built new toilet facilities / drainage
