Restoring Mobility for the Hernandez & Magana Family

On September 8th, I received a call from my brother informing me that our mom’s car had been severely damaged by an unlicensed driver who was speeding through the neighborhood. The collision was so severe that it pushed her car into the garage and not only totaled her only reliable vehicle, but also damaged our family home. Miraculously, no one was hurt—my family was inside and the driver had minor injuries. Unfortunately, the driver had no license or insurance and was arrested.

My mom bought this vehicle in January to better support our family of five, including two young children and a teenager. This was the second time her vehicle has been damaged by speeding drivers. A lesson learned from this experience is the importance of obtaining uninsured motorist insurance, especially for corner homes that are more susceptible to reckless driving.

This incident has left my mom to face the full financial burden of repairs. She has been trying for eight years to work with the city to implement speed bumps, a curb around the property, and a four-way stop sign, but nothing has been done. If anyone has advice or contacts to help get these requests addressed, it would be greatly appreciated.

My mom is a dedicated nurse who has always put others first, even when our family has faced numerous challenges of our own. She saves lives for a living and finds true purpose in her work. She is the main provider in her household and supports my three siblings along with my grandmother.

As I continue to navigate adulthood and support my teenage brother with a reliable vehicle for college, I ask for your support in helping me raise the funds to help my mom through this unforeseen incident.
