Restore & upgrade a building for the community

https://youtu.be/LLV_wCqgM6I

13 months in and the COVID-19 pandemic is still with us, at this current time were seeing community organisations closing or being forced to restrict their activities due to lack of funding. now more than ever there is a greater need for intervention and support services engaging and supporting vulnerable and hard to reach young people and their parents. With high rent bills that still need to be paid, and a lack of consistent fundraising opportunities it makes it harder for grassroots community groups to afford to pay their rent. In response to this we have convinced the Edmonton Green shopping centre management group to give us a large, underutilized part of the shopping centre for the next 10 years, to specifically run and deliver community activities, services, workshops and events.

This new partnership will enable us to give communities a free place to continue to run their vital activities, support services and workshops, whilst also enabling us to expand as a charity and give our existing users more opportunities. Unfortunately, the section of the shopping centre we have been gifted has not been in use for the last 12 ½ years and needs extensive renovations, but when this has been done, it will enable us to have the necessary space to have a large variety of high-quality versatile facilities. This new facility will be extremely unique in that it will facilitate and support so many different areas of the community from grass roots level upwards. There will be multiple facilities within our new project that simply do not exist anywhere else and would be some community members only realistic opportunity of having access to such resources.

The work we will be doing within our new centre will save lives and also keep gang affiliated and hard to reach young people off of the streets & help them to get back into education, employment, training as well as supporting them to develop their own business ideas. Within our building our aim will be to enable multiple community groups to use our new facilities at the same time, whilst also supporting & facilitating both young people & parents as well as the wider community. With your help and the help of our other sponsors our new building will consist of:

• Multi-functional Media Studio & Photography - Suite for a wide variety of different video photography and media content. We will also run a range of workshops and activities within the recording studio for the community to learn how to record and edit live music

• Free Community events space - this will comprise of smaller multiple use rooms of varying size that could be expanded into adjacent rooms to suit one off events, workshops, training programs, larger community meetings.

• Touch-down and Start-up units and hot desk spaces - Our new units will be designed to enable people within the community to set-up, establish and grow their small business giving them much needed free help, support and advice it will also give people the available space to have hot desk in facilities if they need it as well.

• Dance Studio - our new community dance studio will give people within the community are free place to practice and learn a variety of different dance skills from street dance, ballet & much more.
• Teaching and learning facilities - with a high standard of IT facilities.

• Motion Capture Studio and backlit L.E.D display wall - in the use of large scale led panels to create virtual environments for film & Tv. This technology is beyond cutting edge, cutting the costs of production in half and eliminating the need for travel to destinations. In the time of COVID-19 this is now more important than ever. The technology behind this is a game engine known as the unreal engine. The use of the unreal engine in a venture such as this allows real time adjustment of the scenery portrayed on the led displays allowing iteration of the environments to be immediate and giving control back to the artist or director. At the moment this technology is very scarce throughout the country. So having this technology readily available to the community will propel the medium forward encouraging innovation as well providing the future of CGI to the community.

• 3-D animation in game design studio - This project will provide the chance for young people to learn the inner workings of cutting edge digital art & design through the use of specialised hardware & software in conjunction with lessons & mentoring from specialists in the field to provide a complete experience. The project will be using high end sophisticated computing with software used in our new community AAA studios to provide an experience that typically would only be accessible to university grade institutions or in specific design companies.

As well as these facilities our hub will also offer local residents information advice and guidance, whilst also providing early intervention services to young people helping them solve problems before they escalate into bigger problems. In our effort to have the best outcome for our local community our team will be working with local organizations, skilled individuals from within the community and experts in their fields in music, media, business & art to help support & empower the community to pass on skills. Not only will it fill large gaps in services currently in the area, but it will also compliment other services who can only offer limited support or may require a place to refer their client for additional support or simply require a space to deliver a piece of work or project that is of benefit to individuals or groups.

We estimate it will take approximately 12 months to completely renovate and upgrade our new multifunctional facility’s, the renovations will be carried out over 6 different phases consisting of:

• Phase 1 - repairing internal and external walls, electrical installation, repairing broken roofs, fixing the internal heating systems and boiler room. As this new facility sits within an area struggling with youth unemployment, tradesman and professionals struggling due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we have decided that any funding given to us for the building and renovations will be spent on local unemployed skilled tradesman and engineers. One of the conditions of undertaking any work in our new building would be that the tradesman/engineers would be expected to teach young people aged between 16 to 25 a skill within their area of expertise.

• Phase 2 - will consist of painting all the walls in a neutral colour, installing carpets, floor tiles, lighting and fire safety elements to the building as well as installing and repairing emergency lighting & fire doors, CCTV, fire alarm systems and emergency shutters to the building.

• Phase 3 - will consist of installing a community kitchen, installing a disabled toilet and upgrading existing toilets installing a front desk and waiting area whilst also installing ramps and easy access doors and key fob entry.

• Phase 4 - will consist of upgrading the electrical systems and running Wi-Fi and data cables throughout the community offices, workshop rooms and community event spaces whilst also equipping them and our new youth drop-in facility’s.

• Phase 5 - will consist of upgrading the rest of the venue’s electrical systems, data cables, media and photography lighting systems, upgrade the building soundproofing, installing the dance studio flooring, mirrors and sound system, whilst also equipping the photography media and computer rooms with 30 top spec computers.

• Phase 6 - will consist of setting up and installing recording studio one and two whilst also setting up and installing the motion Capture Studio and backlit L.E.D display walls.

The new facility will be multifunctional and will focus on locally identified community needs that relate to our youth, our elderly, unemployed job seekers and the vulnerable within our society. We anticipate there would be a significant reduction in the need for costlier statutory interventions. Within the first two years of our facility being opened our aim would be to engage with 1,000 adults and 1,500 young people 750 of which will have participated a minimum of 10 to 15 times through the course of the next 24 months. At least 500 people will engage in our short & long-term programs and will achieved personal development and learning outcomes, over 250 of which will have gained a nationally recognised AQA & OCN qualification.
