<div>The Joiner family home holds a special place in the heart of our community. It was the first home purchased by a young man from Kosciusko, Mississippi, who sought to escape the harsh realities of racism in the South. In search of a better life, Joe joined the army and eventually made his way to Altadena, California, to be closer to his older siblings. There, he met Sherry Joiner, a remarkable woman who has dedicated over 35 years to the Pasadena Unified School District and is lovingly known by many Muir alumni as Mrs. J.

<div>Together, they raised three wonderful children and welcomed four grandchildren into their lives, creating countless memories in a home filled with love, laughter, and delicious meals. Joe spent his final days in this cherished home, which has always been a gathering place for family and friends.
