Restore the Hay House

Donation protected

We wish to rebuild and save the Hay House so that members of the community can gather and connect The Hay House is a gathering place for artists, buddhists, and the local Tibetan community, not to mention the
devoted following for the flowers, jam, vegetables and eggs.
The Hay House is also a site of CT's first stupa, buddhist peace monument.

The Hay House in Old Saybrook, CT is the oldest bale structure east ot the Rockies. Built in 1976 by the Gleason Bros, everything used in the construction of the house was from the property.
Because this was the first structure of it's kind in this part of the world, the builders had no reference for proper bale-structure technology. Thus it is not standing the intended test of time. A side of the building is crumbling.

To be sustainable one end of the house needs to be rebuilt using current framing practice.
The rebuilding will maintain the visual and historic character of the Hay House.
Help rescue a monument to sustainable living and restore it to its original splendor.

We are so grateful to anyone who will help us sustain this vibrant community.
