Restore Sarah the Raptor

Donation protected

On June 28th I was notified that one of my public art driftwood sculptures, Sarah the Raptor, was vandalized. Sarah was located in Willow Point in Campbell River and was part of an initiative to place more public driftwood art into the community for people to enjoy.

The damage was severe. Her head was ripped off at the neck and her arms torn from the shoulders. Most of her teeth were knocked out and her body left unstable and broken. I deemed her unrepairable and was ready to take her apart and return her wooden bones to the ocean. An outpouring of community support began to flow my way and I saw firsthand how many people were affected by this act of vandalism, what Sarah meant to them and their family and friends and what they were willing to contribute to get her restored and back on the beach.

Sarah is in need of a complete restoration! A return to the studio is necessary with a four day rebuild to bring her back to ‘better than new’ form. The $1000 goal needed to bring Sarah back reflects the $250/day income goal I have for my normal studio time. As much as I would like to donate this studio time myself to restore her, my studio and living expenses need to be met.

So, I put it out to the community, those who continue to enjoy my public driftwood art, to help restoreSarah! Any amount will help and all contributions are appreciated by me, those who enjoy public art and the arts community as a whole.

Any contributions above the $1000 mark for Sarah’s restoration will be put towards more public driftwood art for the community!!

Thank you so much! And thank you for supporting the arts! It means so much to so many people, myself included.
