Hi
My name is Jocelyn. I'm a black nonbinary person and I'm currently homeless in Minnesota. I'm looking for help to get my car back after being repossessed and my phone turned on after disconnection.
I was previously in car sales but realized how terrible the industry is and decided I can't be part of it. I quit my job and moved to Boston. After 4 months, 2 dozen interviews, and 150+ job applications, I couldn't get hired. I had run out of money and time.
I found someone in Minnesota who said I could live with them for a while until I got back on my feet. After a month of communicating, I finally set off to make the trip. I sold and donated all my furniture and half my belongings. I packed my car and drove 1,500 miles over 3 days.
I was 7 hours away from the person's house I was promised to live with when they sent me a message saying I can no longer move in because the landlord changed their mind on having another person move in. I had spent all my money and could not make it back to where I came from. I decided to venture onto Minnesota. This is where/when I became homeless.
I've been staying in a homeless shelter since. On Wednesday morning, Feb. 12, 2025, at 10 am, I noticed my car was missing. I called 911 and was told it had been repossessed. I had been unable to make my loan payments as I could not find a job that would hire me in 4 months.
My car means everything to me. I used it as a means to make money with gig work and as a shelter when I had no place to go. All of my belongings are currently trapped in my car. I don't have so much as a toothbrush. I currently have a small luggage bag with a few pairs of socks, underwear, shirts, and a bathrobe. I don't even have my phone charger or birth certificate as it's all locked in my car. Even if I could arrange some way to get my personal belongings, I have nowhere to put them because I live in a homeless shelter.
I am desperate to get my car back and have my phone service turned back on. I don't expect anyone to find me permanent and stable housing. I just need to have my car back.
I'm working with mental health organizations to help me with everything else because I'm really struggling at the moment. I have several mental health diagnoses from major depression to a personality disorder. It's made things really hard for me to cope with and maintain a healthy and stable environment.
I really hope that being here in Minnesota will finally be the place I can get the help I need.
The following are things I'm trying to fund:
1. Unpaid Auto Loan Balance
- $2,500
2. Unpaid Phone Service Balance
- $500
3. Auto Insurance
- $1,000
4. Storage Fees & Misc.
- $500
