<div>My name is Lasania McKenzie, and I currently reside in Virginia. My mom, Sophia lovingly known as “Dahlian in Smithfield, Westmoreland lost everything during the devastating Hurricane Melissa. The home she lived in for many years was destroyed. It was more than just a house it was where she raised her three beautiful children, where love and resilience filled every corner, even when times were tough.

<div>She didn’t grow up with much, but she always made the best of what she had. My mom is hardworking, driven, and one of the kindest souls you could ever meet. A few months ago, she opened a small shop to create a better future for herself and her youngest son, but the hurricane took that too. Despite losing everything her home, her business, and her sense of stability she continues to stay strong and hopeful.
