Restaurants Advocating for Democracy

Donation protected
**NOVEMBER 1 UPDATE**
We were lucky enough to partner with the greatest restaurants in the city who have graciously denied our offer to cover their costs. So, what we are doing now is a last-minute fundraising extravaganza to get as much cash to Fair Fight Action as we possibly can. Stayed home on Halloween? Donate the cost of what that tab would have been. Not going to eat outside tonight? Donate what you would've spent on wine! Any dollar helps AND we have a generous donor who has offered to match all donations up to $2,500! YOU CAN DOUBLE YOUR DONATION! We are so damn close to election day and we want to show up as a restaurant community committed to winning.

------

We are proud and excited to introduce Restaurants Advocating for Democracy, a coalition created by Rachel Jackson and Nate Adler of Gertie restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Through R.A.D., we hope to bring people together (while six feet apart) through food, drink, and phone banking.

As you know, this upcoming election is the most important one in our lifetimes and will carry historic consequences. We are facing several crises at once—an ongoing pandemic, an economic catastrophe, and a dire threat to our democracy. We want to make sure that no matter what happens, we wake up on November 4th feeling like we tried our hardest to effect change.

Here's what we're doing: Starting Thursday, October 1st, we will be partnering with a different restaurant and beverage partner to host a weekly event to benefit rotating organizations that promote access to polling sites, ending voter suppression, and assists with voter registration. We’ll be setting up a grill outside the restaurant on Grand Street for guests to eat, drink, and rendezvous at Gertie's sidewalk ‘dining room’ and create a separate, quiet space in our back patio to make phone calls to prospective voters across the country.

Here's why we're asking for your help: All food, beer, wine, and spirits are being donated by our restaurant and beverage partners and we will be "selling" our menu on a purely donation-based system, with all proceeds going directly going to the chosen organization. As you probably know, the last six months have been devastating to the restaurant industry--we've seen friends permanently close, have battled lack of information from our city governments, and begged for support that has yet to arrive. So we are looking to you, our friends and family, to consider a donation to help us provide some financial support to the businesses and operators that are graciously donating their time and product.

Access to these funds will be available to participating restaurants, and any additional funds will be donated. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions. In addition to your financial support, we hope you will join us to make calls, write postcards, or enjoy a socially distant drink on Grand Street.
