Reshavan's UWC Costa Rica Education

I am Reshavan Naicker from Durban, South Africa. Last year in August one of my lifelong ambitions came true when I was accepted to the United World College of Costa Rica. This experience has been everything that I had hoped it would be and so much more. I am living, studying and going through all the ups and downs of life with 180 other people from over 70 different countries. I have grown in so many new ways that have made me into a more compassionate, understanding and appreciative person.

Growing up as a South African-Indian in post-apartheid South Africa has given me a lot of unique perspectives. However, something that I do not believe it has given me, despite every possible sacrifice made by my parents, is the best opportunities for my personal education and growth. That is why when I was accepted to the UWC Costa Rica last year, I was more excited than I ever had been in my entire life to attend a school. Not only was this an incredible opportunity to live with people from around the world, but it was also a chance to get an education that was centred around more than just my little corner of the globe. It was also an opportunity to study at an institution that would have been nearly impossible for me to study at, coming from the South African education system. But most importantly, it was an opportunity for me to grow and push myself to new limits which I would have never had access to at home.

I am currently completing my second and final year at UWC Costa Rica, and it has been the most fruitful and beneficial experience of my life. Never have I grown so much and met so many amazing people in my life. Despite all the ups and downs that I have encountered here, I would not change my decision to attend UWCCR for anything. The educational opportunities that I have been given here are priceless and I cannot wait to start the next chapter of my life, studying my passion, architecture, in America. However, in order to do this, I need your help to be able to come back to UWC Costa Rica before the beginning of my last semester in January. Every donation helps and is greatly appreciated!
