Research Expedition to Honduras

Donation protected
Hello wonderful people!

I'm Kai Rawnsley, studying Environmental Science at the University of East Anglia.

For a long while now, I have been very interested in the conservation of natural ecosystems and habitats. This interest was reinforced in the spring of 2017 when I travelled to Portugal to do a Permaculture Design Course (regenerative sustainable agriculture). This experience showed me the value of being in different cultures whilst learning about such fascinating subjects.

Through the University of East Anglia, I have been offered an amazing opportunity, to travel to Honduras in the summer of 2018 as a research assistant with Operation Wallacea (link: www.opwall.com). This organisation operates in remote corners of the world, working with a wide network of academics to implement biodiversity and conservation research projects,  as well as creating protected sites and helping to support local communities in the areas where it operates.

The project I aim to be involved with will take place in the Honduran rainforest, which is one of the rarest habitats in the world. I hope to be monitoring biodiversity and calculating the carbon content of the forest, with the goal of increasing the conservation of this endangered ecosystem. Rainforests are important for us all, as the destruction of these rich environments has negative impacts upon the global climate. They are also the most biodiverse regions on the planet, and as such when they are threatened the entire global gene pool is threatened. It is for these reasons that I want to be involved in this expedition.

In order to involve myself in this research project, I need to raise a substantial sum of money before May 2018. This will allow Operation Wallacea to continue to do its excellent work, and contribute towards my travel expenses.
I will be doing all that I can to raise the money, including working and organising fundraising events, however my time is very limited. Thats where you come in! With just a small donation, you could not only aid the continued protection of these rare and unique ecosystems, but also help me to achieve this dream.

Your help would mean the world to me.

Thank you so very much.
