Rescued Horses Need Shelter to Eat and Rest

At Willow Branch Horse Haven and Refuge near Dallas, Oregon, more than 30 horses, minis, donkeys, and mules have found a safe place after enduring abuse, neglect, and abandonment.
In spring, the grass is lush, and the eating is good. But when high-summer dries up the pasture and the sun is very hot, again the horses must have hay. In all kinds of weather, the horses need shelter and a clean, dry place to eat.
This is where you come in! Please donate – any amount will make a big difference – to help the folks at Willow Branch build a special structure, and the plans are already made: it will have a raised foundation with good drainage. It will have a central storage area for hay, so fodder can be kept dry, ready at hand. It will have long extended roofs that will give the horses clean, dry, sheltered areas to eat that hay and to get out of pounding rain and hot sun. These animals have been through a lot. They endured real peril, sickness, wounds, and neglect. They need this help.

In winter, the pasture can turn to mud, and when there’s snow, it covers any remnants of grass. Grazing is impossible, and the people who care for these critters need to haul hay to them because it’s imperative that they have enough to eat, every day, in all kinds of weather.

Most hay bales are enormous. Moving them -- or even parts of them -- in muddy conditions, or when it's really hot, is a huge job. Storing hay safely in the pasture will make daily feeding so much easier. The covered areas will keep the fodder dry and clean -- safer and better for everybody.
Since 2018, Willow Branch has been a haven for horses down on their luck, for minis who are abandoned or homeless, for mini-donkeys and mules with nowhere else to go. It’s a wonderful spread, with more than 20 acres of beautiful pasture.
When there were fewer, there was room for all of them in the barn but now there are more than 30, and many more languish in feed lots and auction yards, in need of the help and protection Willow Branch affords.
Please donate to help Willow Branch help more horses in need.
Here's a picture of one little fellow who came to Willow Branch needing surgery and serious restorative farrier work -- his hooves were horribly overgrown. Now, he's found a forever home with a family who love him. He's a picture of joy -- and a picture of just what Willow Branch hopes for all the needy animals we can take in. I've volunteered at Willow Branch for a couple of years now, and it is as close to horse heaven as anything I've ever seen. I hope you'll join me in helping make this place even better - and better able to accommodate more needy horses of all sizes and stripes!
