Replace our Confederate Memorial

Due to overwhelming public support, the Helena City Commission decided on August 16, 2017 to remove the Confederate Memorial Fountain in Helena's Hill Park, the last remaining Confederate memorial in the Pacific Northwest, a historic hotbed of white supremacist organizing. This memorial had represented the stain of white supremacy in our community for over 100 years. As a matter of public safety and comity, the Confederate monument was removed on August 18th. (The photo above is a "before" image, as a contributor to this campaign we will send you the "after" image when the new fountain is installed.)
To help heal the community, which was divided over this issue, some of us who spearheaded this effort received permission from the Helena City Commission on September 7, 2017 to begin private fundraising efforts to replace the monument with a community-appropriate fountain. All private funds contributed will augment funds the City Commission's Public Art Committee has allocated to the fountain's replacement (currently $12,000 of the estimated $25,000 cost). When you contribute, please share your thoughts about how the City of Helena should rededicate this fountain.
All funds raised via gofundme will be held in a local 501(c)3 non-profit account, with no administrative fee charged, and decisions about how funds are dispersed will be made by our community through a public process administered by the Helena Public Art Committee.
