Replace Troop 8 Stolen Equipment

On Saturday, May 28th, the Scouts of Troop 8 from Pike Road, AL found that thieves had stolen their trailer from the grounds of their charter organization, St. James Church, despite it being secured with an advanced coupler lock. They had earlier in the week loaded it for their Memorial Day weekend campout, leading to the loss of the Troop’s stoves, griddles, propane tanks, tents, and other gear as well. Despite this tragedy, the Scouts and adult leaders quickly came together and pulled off the campout using foil pack meals, loaned gear, and extra vehicles to transport gear. These Scouts are resilient, but they rely on Troop gear for the camps, events, and service projects for which the Scouting program is known. The trailer and gear were accumulated through the fundraising efforts of 100s of Scouts and their families over the Troop's decades-long history and we are heartbroken over the loss of that which so many worked so hard to gain. We filed a police report and are seeking assistance from insurance, but it appears we will have to fund the majority, if not all, costs of replacing the trailer and equipment.

Troop 8's program is strong and you have probably seen the Scouts active in Pike Road, Montgomery, and the surrounding area. However, without this trailer and equipment, future camps, service projects, and the development of our youth are in jeopardy. Through requests for donated gear, an upcoming fundraiser, and this request for monetary donations, the Scouts hope to replace the equipment and purchase or refurbish a donated trailer. Any donation will be greatly appreciated, and we promise to be thrifty and get the most out of your generosity.
