<div>OUR HISTORY
</div>
<div>Ayití (meaning mountainous place) is the land of the Taino. It was invaded by Christopher Columbus in 1492. The Spaniards enslaved and killed many of the Taino. They brought the plantation economy and disease. The surviving Taino would integrate into the communities of enslaved Africans that would later be brought by the British and the French to work on plantations. In the 1700s, enslaved Africans, utilizing Vodou, a religion of West African &amp; Taino origins, resisted slavery and waged war on their enslavers. In 1804, Ayití won its independence from English, Spanish, &amp; French colonial rule. It was the first free Black nation. Haitians were forced to pay a ransom to their former enslavers. Over a century later, Ayití would once again be invaded, this time, by the United States. Although the occupation ended, Haitian people are still fighting TODAY for the right to govern ourselves.

<div>WHO WE ARE

<div>This project is being initiated and led by Toya Abdaraya (he/him). Toya is a Haitian person who lived in the diaspora and returned to Haiti to live and rebuild. He has over 10 years of political organizing experience: creating a survival fund for Black Trans people, facilitating food Justice workshops, and doing community outreach and political education for people young and old. He creates writing, art, is an SWer and singer-songwriter. He is a land steward. seba* eludei (she/they) is an Afro-Caribbean movement artist and musician, caretaker, SWer and land steward. She has also organized and engaged in direct action to combat anti- Haitianism and ableism in the Dominican Republic. She is also living in Haiti.

<div>OUR WHY
</div>
<div>This land project is designed to restore our dignity as descendants of the colonized and enslaved. It will address our basic human need for community and belonging so that we can thrive! This project is intersectional. It centers Black and Native peoples, Trans women and men, nonbinary, gender expansive, and intersex people, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and asexual people, darkskinned people, fat people, disabled and chronically ill people, poor people, homeless and housing insecure people, sex workers, domestic workers, and other informal laborers, the youth, birthgivers and those who support them,people who practice indigenous spiritualities, plants, fungi, water, air, soil, insects and other non-human creatures. This project is led by those who exist within these intersections who hold de-colonial perspectives.

<div>Phase 1: Land Back
</div>
<div>Liberation starts with land access and we are happy to announce that WE HAVE LAND! 15,000 square feet (~0.34 acres) was donated to us by a Haitian elder whose great wish is for younger people to rebuild Haiti. She has entrusted us with continuing Haiti’s legacy of liberation. Thank you, Michou.

<div>Phase 2: Accessible &amp; Sustainable Housing
</div>
<div>The funds will help us build systems: housing, food, water, energy, waste management, and sewage treatment that works WITH the Earth and not against it. Housing will be accessible for wheelchair users. It will be spacious enough to accommodate bodies of any size. It will utilize and recycle garbage to build the structure and clean the Earth. It will grow and expand with us!

</div>
<div>This land will feed us. We will grow our own food, becoming less dependent on the state &amp; private entities for sustenance. Growing our own food means taking back our power and honoring our ancestors who grew food before us.

<div>NUESTRA HISTORIA
</div>
<div>Ayití (que significa «lugar montañoso») es la tierra de los taínos. Fue invadida por Cristóbal Colón en 1492. Los españoles esclavizaron y asesinaron a muchos taínos. Introdujeron la economía de plantación y enfermedades. Los taínos supervivientes se integraron en las comunidades de africanos esclavizados que posteriormente fueron traídos por británicos y franceses para trabajar en las plantaciones. En el siglo XVIII, los africanos esclavizados, practicando el vudú, una religión de origen africano occidental y taíno, resistieron la esclavitud y lucharon contra sus esclavizadores. En 1804, Ayití obtuvo su independencia del dominio colonial inglés, español y francés. Fue la primera nación negra libre. Los haitianos se vieron obligados a pagar un rescate a sus antiguos esclavizadores. Más de un siglo después, Ayití fue invadida nuevamente, esta vez por Estados Unidos. Escribe, crea arte, es trabajador social y cantautor. Es administrador de tierras. Seba* Eludei (ella/elle) es artista y música afrocaribeña, cuidadora, trabajadora social y administradora de tierras. También ha organizado y participado en acciones directas para combatir el antihaitianismo y la discriminación por discapacidad en la República Dominicana. También vive en Haití.

<div>Este proyecto territorial está diseñado para restaurar nuestra dignidad como descendientes de personas colonizadas y esclavizadas. Abordará nuestra necesidad humana básica de comunidad y pertenencia para que podamos prosperar. Este proyecto es interseccional. Se centra en las personas negras e indígenas, mujeres y hombres trans, personas no binarias, de género diverso e intersexuales, personas lesbianas, gays, bisexuales y asexuales, personas de piel oscura, personas con sobrepeso, personas con discapacidad y enfermedades crónicas, personas pobres, personas sin hogar o con vivienda precaria, trabajadoras sexuales, trabajadoras domésticas y otros trabajadores informales, jóvenes, mujeres que dan a luz y quienes las apoyan, personas que practican espiritualidades indígenas, plantas, hongos, agua, aire, suelo, insectos y otras criaturas no humanas. Este proyecto está liderado por personas que se encuentran dentro de estas intersecciones y que tienen perspectivas decoloniales.
