Wheelchair Repair Bill

My name is Natasha Santiago, I live in Moca, Puerto Rico. Since I was a child I have this genetic condition called SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) this condition affects the muscles that are closer to my spine then, to the rest of my muscles, and as the time pass, I depend on a wheelchair, and in some cases, a mechanical ventilator to be able to breathe. As a consequence of my condition, I have a tracheotomy, so I can breathe better. I’m 23 years old, and since i was a small child i needed the use of a wheelchair, but only for short periods of time. At the age of 12, i needed it full time, then at the age of 14, i had my first motorized wheelchair. I gave this wheelchair to a person who was in need of one. I graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in Aguadilla, and at the third year the Vocational Rehabilitation program of Puerto Rico paid for the wheelchair I’m currently using, an Invacare TDX SP, which, sadly, broke and the difference of the total cost is $2,200.00. I don’t have that amount of money because I’m unemployed even though I’m academically prepared, i don’t have a way to get this amount of money, if it’s not by people’s kindness. This wheelchair brings comfort to my back, because i can actually lay on it, with this feature, I can be more productive, because I can give my back a little rest. This wheelchair, is basically all I have, and the only one I can use because of its features. It is built exclusively for me, and my spine, and the seat was made for my hips and my maximum comfort. Like some people would say, my chair is like a Transformer, it’s everything for me, since I depend on it completely. Honestly I don’t have the money nor do the ways to afford another wheelchair just like this one, so I just prefer get this one fixed. The people who know me, know that I like to work hard for what I want. I would like for you to help me, this chair is all I have to move myself around and do the stuff I need to do. So basically this chair represents my “metallic legs” and it helps get to places. If you can’t donate something, please, share this message for the people who may donate something. Thank you!

             Mi nombre es Natasha Santiago, resido en Moca, Puerto Rico. Desde pequeña padezco una condición genética degenerativa llamada SMA (por sus siglas en inglés) esta condición afecta a los músculos más cercanos a mi cuerpo y con el tiempo depender totalmente de una silla de ruedas, en algunos casos depender de un ventilador mecánico para respirar. Como consecuencia de mi condición tengo una traqueotomía para poder respirar mejor. Tengo veintitrés años, desde pequeña he usado una silla de ruedas pero a la edad de doce años la uso a tiempo completo, a los 14 años tuve mi primera silla motorizada, esta silla la done a otra persona que la necesitaba. Me gradué en la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Aguadilla y a los tres años de estudiar por Rehabilitación Vocacional pago por mi actual silla de ruedas, una Invacare TDX SP lamentablemente se me daño, la diferencia del costo de reparación es de 2,200$ no tengo este dinero ya que estoy desempleada aun estando preparada académicamente, no tengo manera de conseguir este dinero si no es con la amabilidad de la gente. Mi silla se recuesta y permite que descanse mi espalda así poder ser más productiva en el día a día. Esta silla actualmente es la única que tengo y la única que puedo usar porque tengo una desviación en la espalda y el espaldar de la silla esta adaptado a mi cuerpo, también mi cojín está adaptado a la forma de mi cadera. En fin como diría la gente es como un “transformer”, para mí lo es todo, dependo totalmente de la silla. Honestamente no tengo el dinero ni los medios para comprar otra así que por lo tanto prefiero arreglar esta. Las personas que me conocen saben que soy una mujer luchadora, emprendedora. Desearía que me ayuden ya que mi silla representa mi manera de moverme, metafóricamente hablando son mis piernas metálicas para moverme por el mundo. Aunque no puedan donar, les pido que le den share para así ayudarme.
