Weir raising funds to help fish.

Donation protected
Settle Hydro would like to make repairs to the weir head at Bridge End Mill, Settle, on the River Ribble, to improve the efficiency of the turbine and protect migrating fish.

In 2015, some of the timber supports collapsed due high river flows, resulting in a loss of water going through the fish pass.

Emergency repairs to the weir head were made in 2018 (with the approval of the Environment Agency) to prevent the weir failing, but a more permanent repair to the weir head is required.

Currently, migrating fish can struggle to navigate the pass if water levels get too high due to the turbulent flow, or if the levels get too low.

A more efficient weir will not only help fish reach their spawning grounds up river, it will also allow the turbine to take in a more consistent level of water and generate more electricity.

Settle Hydro Ltd is run solely by volunteers on behalf of the community, generating clean energy for local home and into the National Grid.

It is a Registered Society under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014.
