Murals - Help Chinatown Muralist Donate Murals

Updates March 2023

Dear Public,

It has been over 10 months since the last round of fundraising and I am hoping you all can take a moment and share this page with others. I am reaching out because I need public support once again. The most recent mural that has been completed is now located inside Portsmouth Square Parking Garage. Located at 745 Kearny St, San Francisco, CA 94108.

Currently, I am working on concept development for seven different mural sites. These are a collaboration with the property owners and myself. A couple of these are ready to move forward but I require funds to purchase materials (painting supplies). Due to limited funds some of these projects have been waiting for over a year. I would appreciate the public support of my mission to beautify the historical district of SF Chinatown. If you want to donate via gift card from Blicks Art Materials; that works too because a lot of materials are purchased at Blick's and not just at Sherwin- Williams stores or hardware stores. As promised when I started this page; all murals are gifted to the property owners/store owners. My time and labor are gifted to each project out of love for the Chinatown Community. I have also used my funds (my husband's income) to cover costs and purchase supplies for the past two years. All projects are available to view on our website: sfcvaa.org

Thank you for taking the time to read this update and for sharing it with others who may be able to donate to my organization.

Sincerely,

Nancy Mora

The murals have been completely defaced by the same individual who has an arrest warrant out for him. This time he even destroyed the surveillance camera that captured him every single time.

I ask for the public to help with raising additional funds. This time they used black spray paint which is a huge problem. They would usually only use pens, semi permeant markets and crayon. Those materials are easier to remove thanks to the anti-graffiti sealer but this time, the damage is extensive.

Please share this story with others who may be able to help with donations. The funds will go towards cleaning supplies to remove spray paint and purchasing additional anti-graffiti sealer because of more much will have to be reapplied to re-seal the murals.

The same individual has decided to deface the same murals again. The incident occurred on the evening of 6/3/21 at 10:51pm and as of today 6/8/21 the murals have been cleaned and restored. There was a recent interview by Taylor Bisacky at Kron4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx8PNY3Kc8s

5/27/21 Update: Thank you all for the donations and sharing this story with future patrons and sponsors. A special thank you to Sherwin-Williams for their donation of the anti-graffiti sealer!

5/17/21 Update: Happy Monday to All! I will be getting a PO Box today. For those who want to mail in their donations - this will make this more efficient. Working on the non-profit logistics with the help of the Chinatown Community leaders & elders. Thank you for your generous donations. Meeting with paint sponsors to discuss the murals that we are planning for the near future.

If you know of talented young artists ( ages 5 - 18) who are part of the Chinatown Community please reach out to me at [email redacted]

The non-profit that is being set up will be calling for young artists who are talented and passionate about Chinese Art & Culture. I will be contacting schools in Chinatown through the associations that have talented art students who would be willing to participate in these future mural projects to help beautify their own community. Chinatown families & community members have great pride in their visual arts & culture. Please reach out if interested to learn more details. There are many children and young teens who love painting but haven't had the opportunity to be part of a mural project.

5/12/21 Update: Thank you to all who shared this story and to those who donated. All extra remaining funds will then be used for the several dozen murals which I will be donating to Chinatown's Community in the coming months.

Concept pieces have been in the works and the shop owners can then select a piece to have done on their store front/wall space. Even shops that are not occupied, the property owners can select from these concept pieces to promote Chinatown. All the concept art will represent Chinatown's rich culture, historical icons and the beauty that is the Asian Community.

This will make it possible to cover material costs. My time will continue to be donated with all these murals to come. Thank you everyone! I will be creating a website to document and share these mural projects. Which will then serve as a historical archive of the murals in Chinatown and be shared with the different associations.

Please stay tuned for more via here and my IG page @Chinatown_muralist_sf

Dear Reader,

This was a hate crime against the Chinatown Community in San Francisco. Over the weekend of April 12, 2021 & again on May 8, 2021 in Jack Kerouac Alley & Grant Ave. Both incidents were committed by the same individual.

These murals were donated works of Art to uplift the community spirit and in honor of Year of the Ox. The artists @bunhunnid_art & @Chinatown_Muralist_SF donated their time and their own supplies to create these murals. For those who are blessed enough to help, your donation is really appreciated. The cost of supplies is out of budget due to the already spent out of pocket expenses to create these murals. 5 murals were already completed after 2 months of work. This alley was covered with graffiti prior to Feb. 2021. This alley has really transformed and attracted more tourists who have enjoyed the beautification.

The funds we raise will go to purchasing supplies for cleaning/removing the marks, paint to redo/retouch areas damaged, and 4 gallons of anti graffiti semi gloss sealer which costs $415 per gallon. All these supplies will be purchased at local hardware stores in the neighborhood.

The first time the individual was not alone and had 2 lookouts. A male and a female. We also ask that people be aware of the individual who committed this hate crime. They were not wearing a mask when caught on video surveillance at the beginning of arriving to the alley. The lookouts covered their face during the act. Not only did they deface these murals, they urinated in the alley. They also were stupid enough to think just because they moved to the city days before that no one would be able to identify their handwriting/illustration/tag - they actually signed "harry hat 13" on Cai Shen face and was identified by SoCal artist - they have asked to remain anonymous. The 2nd time this individual return they came alone. They proceeded to deface the front of an architectural firm 17 Kerouac Alley & City Lights Books yellow store sign. All surveillance footage and evidence have been handed to the police. This is appalling and disrespectful to a community who is already struggling to survive due to the pandemic and constant attacks on its community members.

Protect Chinatown's Arts & Culture!

Stop Asian Hate!
