Rent assistance for Victoria and her children
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Anya Lincoln and I am raising money for a very special family. They, like many Ukrainians fleeing the war, came to the United States with what they could carry. There were many challenges getting here. Besides the trauma of the invasion, they had to travel on overcrowded trains without drinking water and find their way through many obstacles into Mexico. There they crossed the border having received a status of Humanitarian Parole. They left people they loved behind. Victoria’s grandmother didn’t want to travel and her husband has to stay. The men from their immediate family are fighting on Ukraine’s frontlines. These people have been through hell and it’s far from being in the past. Now that they are here, in New Orleans area, there are new challenges, with assistance in Louisiana 4-6months away, without transport or language, they are trying to start a new life. The girls were given spots at amazing schools, but where they currently live is so far away from these schools that it leaves the mother to take buses and streetcars for hours just to get to one of them. Even with many volunteers driving the girls on certain days, the situation isn’t sustainable. We are trying to find a place for the family to live in near work, public transport, and schools. The organization that I work with tries to find hosts for people like Victoria and her kids but they are a rather large group. It’s hard to find a host.
The money will be used for the first 6months of rent for the family.
In the event that free or more affordable housing is found we will apply the funds to transportation and immediate needs.
