Rent & Electricity Catch-up

Hello everyone (idk how to change the name at the top for who is organizing, Aiden Skah is my roommate!)

My name is Brittany, and I am a 25 year old American struggling in this pandemic like so many others out there. I am embarrassed to even be asking for help with this, but I am hoping I will find temp work for a couple of weeks while waiting for my new job to start.

I am currently in a position where I have a job, but still have bills to pay. I am currently exploring temporary work options so I can make ends meet within 2 weeks. I am super stoked to be starting this new job on the 12th of October, but it won't be in time for when rent comes around and electricity is also due.

Duke Energy was nice enough to defer disconnections & nonpayments through October, but as the fated month approaches, I owe over $600 in electricity because I could not afford to pay the bill due to being unemployed. COVID-19 has really affected the way I look at money, and at job searching. It has been a really rough year for me and my roommate, and I feel bad that I have been such a financial burden to him over the last 9 months. It was also a really hot summer, and I have a long-haired pooch and did not want to see him suffer.

Last year I also was partially hospitalized for suicidal ideation. I still struggle a lot and constantly blame myself for not sticking it out at the job I had, but I couldn't do it. I wish I could have. Unfortunately, I was unable to qualify for unemployment, no matter how many times I appealed my claim.

I am very thankful that I finally have a job opportunity, and I know COVID has made things really tight for everyone involved. Honestly, if I did not get that economic impact payment from the government in April, I'd probably be homeless. I was holding out for another one, just to see if it would happen, but I don't think it will.

I really am sorry to be even putting this up here. So many people have helped me so much. I had to pawn my Switch that I worked overtime for to my parents, and I've had to use my roommate's/best friends tips to help pay for gas. I have been poor for so long but that will soon be a thing of the past. Even if this just makes a little bit...every bit counts, and I am trying to find as many options as I can to be able to pay my bills, and soon I will be able to comfortably do that! It's crazy to think I'll be making an actual living wage again in October. I'm very excited.

Thanks to all who share this, and to who donate. I will update here very soon and keep you updated. This will 100% be going toward rent & electricity and I will post the receipts for bills as they come due. Thank you very much in advance.

**NOTE**: If you would like a portrait or drawing, please contact me! My commissions are open and I have no limit to how many I will be taking! Please contact me via Facebook for commission prices. I want to give back however I can and in the future I hope I can also help someone else in need. Thank you so much. I really do appreciate this.
