Renovation of Knight Park Phase II Playground

Howell Station is a historic neighborhood of 300 homes in Atlanta, established in 1893. At the heart of our community is Knight Park.
In 2017, the Howell Station Board applied for and was
awarded the Park Pride Visioning Grant for Knight Park. Park Pride is an Atlanta-based nonprofit which helps neighborhoods plan for park renovations by providing landscape architect plans and consulting/guiding the neighborhood on grants and fundraising opportunities.
The original community center of Knight Park was built around 1945 but had been neglected and in disrepair for many years. In August 2015 the roof of the building completely collapsed. We have achieved our phase 1 goal with the help of a matching legacy grant from Park Pride. We are currently waiting for approval and permits from the City of Atlanta. Once the permits are granted we will send out an RFP to get quotes from contract companies for the partial demolition and structural support of the remains.
We are now in the 2nd phase of fundraising to fund the playground. We are tasked with raising $25,000 cash by June 2020. This money in addition to a $25,000 in-kind donation from an architect in the neighborhood for design services will be matched by the city for an additional $50,000 making the total for 2020, $100,000 . This will be combined with money obtained from Councilman Antonio Brown ($100,00.00) and a Park Pride grant for $150,000.00 bringing our total fundraising effort to $350,000.00 for the playground.
As you can see by the picture, we are a close neighborhood and we know everyone would greatly appreciate having the old building removed and replaced with safe, clean building for neighborhood gatherings.
